A catheter assembly (10) comprises a catheter (22), a needle (12) having a sharp distal tip disposed in the catheter (22), a catheter hub (14) housing the catheter (22) and the needle (12), the catheter hub (14) having a collar (34) including a notch (36), a needle shield (20) connected to the catheter hub (14) when the needle (12) is in a first position, and a clip (40) disposed in the needle shield (20) that cooperates with the needle (12), wherein the clip (40) engages the catheter hub (14) in the first position of the needle (12), and the clip (40) disengages the catheter hub (14) via the notch (36) when the needle (12) is retracted to a second position to enclose at least a portion of the needle (12). The clip (40) is mounted in the outer housing (38) of the needle shield (20) via a spade (66) having an outer wall (70) exposed to the outside of the needle shield (20), in order to reduce the overall width of the needle shield (20).

HEMOSTASIS SEALING DEVICE WITH CONSTRICTION RING

Aspects herein relate to a medical device for providing a leak-resistant seal for use in a vascular access device. In various embodiments, a device for vascular access hemostasis is included. The device can include an enclosure configured to at least partially receive a medical device, the enclosure defining a cavity. The enclosure can have a first seal portion and a second seal portion, the cavity disposed between the first seal portion and the second seal portion. The enclosure can include the second seal portion comprising a split, septum seal. The enclosure can include a barrel in structural communication with the second seal portion. The device can include a constriction ring disposed around the barrel, the constriction ring interfacing with the second seal portion to limit movement of the split, septum seal.

VALVE FOR DILATOR AND SHEATH ASSEMBLY

A valve for sealing the hub of a sheath assembly is provided. The valve includes a valve body having a solid thickness extending between a proximal surface and a distal surface. A bisecting slot extends across the proximal surface of the valve body and terminates at a depth less than the thickness of the valve body such that a portion of the valve body distally of the slot defines a bridge extending between opposed halves of the valve body such that the distal surface of the valve body is substantially continuous and a central portion of the proximal surface of the valve body is concave and defines a concave proximal portion.

INTRODUCER HUB ASSEMBLY HAVING CROSS-SLIT SEAL

An introducer hub assembly, such as an introducer hub assembly of a leadless cardiac pacemaker, including a hemostatic seal having a cross-slit configuration, is described. The hemostatic seal can be retained between a hub cap and an introducer hub. The hemostatic seal includes a first section having first slits intersecting along a longitudinal axis of the introducer hub, and a second section having second slits intersecting along the longitudinal axis. The first slits are angularly offset relative to the second slits to reduce a likelihood that fluid will leak directly through the seal. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

CATHETER VALVES

The invention is directed to methods and devices to facilitate positioning of a catheter into a vessel and selectively controlling flow of fluids through the catheter until desired using one or more valves.

Seal-healing valve for a medical instrument

The present application discloses medical instruments that utilize self-healing polymers as all or portion of the valves and valve assemblies thereof, such that these valves can self-heal while or after being punctured by an ancillary device during a surgical procedure and thereby help minimize blood loss and achieve hemostasis.

Catheter assembly blood control device and related methods

A catheter assembly includes a catheter adapter and an introducer needle. The introducer needle extends through the catheter adapter and through a catheter tube so as to assist placement of the catheter tube into a patient's blood vessel. Blood flashback into the catheter tube and/or catheter adapter through an aperture in a side of the needle indicates when the catheter tube is within the blood vessel. After the catheter tube is placed in the blood vessel, the introducer needle is withdrawn. A primary septum within the catheter adapter blocks blood flow in a proximal direction past the primary septum. A secondary septum proximal the primary septum is biased so as to enter into the aperture in the introducer needle and plug the aperture while the needle is being withdrawn, thus blocking blood flow through the aperture after the aperture is drawn through the primary septum.

Trocar assembly

A surgical system comprising a cannula assembly and an obturator assembly for penetrating tissue is disclosed. A cover of the cannula assembly is mounted to a cannula housing and has a cover aperture therethrough. The cover has a trailing end face defining a predetermined geometrical configuration, at least a portion of the trailing end face is obliquely arranged relative to a longitudinal axis and terminates in, and leads toward the cover aperture to facilitate guiding of the surgical object through the cover aperture. The obturator assembly includes an obturator housing and an obturator member. The obturator housing has a housing base defining a leading end face, which defines a predetermined geometrical configuration corresponding to the predetermined geometrical configuration of the trailing end face of the cover to mate therewith upon assembly of the obturator assembly with the cannula assembly.

Blood control catheter with antimicrobial needle lube
09789280 · 2017-10-17 · ·

An antimicrobial lubricant applied to an outer surface of an introducer needle as part of a catheter assembly device. The catheter assembly device further includes a blood control septum having a slit through which the introducer needle is threaded. The antimicrobial lubricant is squeegeed, or removed from the outer surface of the introducer needle as the needle is removed from the slit following catheterization. The removed antimicrobial lubricant forms a deposit on the septum at a location proximate to the slit, thereby preventing colonization and growth of pathogens on the septum and other adjacent components and surfaces of the catheter assembly device.

SELF-SEALING CATHETER VALVE

A self-sealing catheter valve that includes a flexible tubular part having a distal opening and an opposite proximal opening, and a proximal valve part. The proximal valve part has a curved self-sealing flexible diaphragm disposed inside the flexible tubular part and has a base perimeter united with a circumferential wall of the flexible tubular part. The curved self-sealing flexible diaphragm has a concave surface facing towards the proximal opening, and a convex surface facing towards the distal opening, and a flexible diaphragm wall of the curved self-sealing flexible diaphragm has a traverse slit. The self-sealing catheter valve provides an efficient self-closing mechanism for a peripheral catheter assembly and constitutes an efficient barrier against potential contagious spread from the patient to the surrounding environment by blood born disease e.g. HIV, hepatitis and Ebola viruses.
