Disclosed is septum arrangement having a pierceable septum. The pierceable septum has first and second surfaces positioned opposite to one another and a peripheral surface. A compression element has at least two compression members that partially or fully surround the peripheral surface and has at least two gripping members. Each compression member is connected to at least one gripping member, and the gripping members extend from the compression members towards a common axis (A) which intersects the first surface. A resilient element exerts a biasing force on the pierceable septum that is directed towards the common axis (A). The gripping members define an aperture between them such that introduction of a needle into the aperture exerts a force on the gripping members that counteracts the biasing force and moves the gripping members apart from each other.

INFUSION AND BLOOD COLLECTION DEVICES

A device for the uninterrupted administration of fluid to an animal body during a draw of bodily fluid, e.g., blood, is disclosed. A first fluid channel is configured to selectively transport IV fluid to an animal body and to draw a bodily fluid from the body. A sealing member for sealing a bodily fluid draw port defines a concave surface on a first end. The sealing member concave surface forms an interior surface portion of the first fluid channel. A connection member is configured to connect to a catheter to the first fluid channel and defines a concave distal end. A second fluid channel continuously provides IV fluid to a lumen coaxially located within the catheter. The concave surface and the concave distal end are shaped to create fluid flow patterns that quickly and completely remove residual bodily fluid remaining after a draw of bodily fluid is completed.

An introducer for insertion of a medical device into a patient's vasculature includes an elongate introducer body, a hub, and a hemostatic valve. The elongate introducer body includes a longitudinal axis, a proximal region, a distal region, and an inner lumen. The hub is coupled to the proximal region of the introducer body. The hemostatic valve is disposed within the hub and forms a liquid-tight seal across the inner lumen. The introducer includes a guide configured to guide an object towards the center of the valve during insertion of the object.

Aspects herein relate to a low-friction septum for providing a leak-resistant seal for use in a vascular access device. In an embodiment, a device for vascular access hemostasis is included having an enclosure defining a cavity and configured to at least partially receive a medical device. The device can include a first seal portion and a second seal portion, the cavity disposed between the first seal portion and the second seal portion. The device can include a barrel in structural communication with the second seal portion, the second seal portion including a septum seal. The second seal portion can define two or more discrete portions, each separated by one or more split lines. The discrete portions can include a mating surface to interface with mating surfaces of other discrete portions. The mating surface can include a surface topology including raised portions and depressions. Other embodiments are also included herein.

HEMOSTATIC DEVICE

A hemostatic device capable of performing decompression operation of an inflatable member and a reinjection operation of a fluid into the inflatable member without requiring a dedicated instrument includes an inflatable member configured to compress a puncture site, a band and a hook-and-loop fastener that function as a securing member to secure the inflatable member to the puncture site, and an injection member to inject fluid into a lumen of the inflatable member. The injection member includes a connector portion for injecting fluid, a main body portion including a tube connecting the connector portion and the inflatable member lumen, and a control unit that controls fluid flow through a lumen of the injection member. The control unit includes a first valve member, a second valve member located closer to the inflatable member than the first valve member, and a fluid storage portion located between the first and second valve members.

A catheter assembly may include a catheter adapter, which may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a lumen extending therethrough. The catheter assembly may also include a septum slidably disposed within the lumen. The septum may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a barrier disposed between the distal end of the septum and the proximal end of the septum. The barrier may divide an interior of the septum into a distal cavity and a proximal cavity. A distal face of the barrier may include a protrusion. The barrier may include a slit extending through the protrusion for selectively opening fluid communication between the distal cavity and the proximal cavity.
