A device to assist the performance of a heart with at least one pump that is formed as a rotary pump and driven via a magneto coupling.

Methods and Systems For Controlling a Left Ventricular Assist Device

The present invention is generally related to methods and systems for preventing onset or worsening of RHF in patients with implanted ventricular assist devices. More particularly, the present invention relates to identifying patients at risk for RHF following implantation of a ventricular assist device based on pulmonary artery pressure measurement and/or trends and adjusting a pump operating parameter to prevent or reduce the onset or worsening of RHF in such patients, improve patient outcomes, or reduce mortality risks associated with VAD implantation. In particular, a pump operating parameter may be adjusted to reduce or minimize particularly high pressure loads on a patient’s heart or amount of time the patient is exposed to such high pressure loads following implantation.

Support structures for intravascular blood pumps

An improved system for supporting (e.g., localization and/or positioning of) intravascular devices discussed herein provides for example a multi-element arrangement. A set of struts optionally projects from the intravascular device and contacts the vessel walls. The localization and positioning of the pump may be provided by the struts and/or by use of a tether opposing a propulsive force to ensure localization.

BLOOD PUMP PLACEMENT AND INTRAVASCULAR BLOOD PUMP

An intravascular blood pump for percutaneous insertion into a patient’s vasculature comprises a pumping device and a supply catheter. The pumping device comprises a pump section with a blood flow inlet, blood flow outlet, and impeller for conveying blood from the inlet to the outlet and further comprises a drive section connected to the pump section and adapted to drive the impeller. The supply line supplies the drive section with electric energy for driving the impeller. The supply catheter supplies electric energy for driving the impeller. The pump section is axially arranged between the drive section and the supply line. The pump section includes a flexibly bendable cannula, and electric lines are arranged across the cannula in a manner to prevent their rupture in the event that the cannula is subject to bending.

A circulatory support device includes a flexible cannula having a fluid outlet at a proximal end; and a pump assembly disposed at a distal end of the flexible cannula. The pump assembly includes a pump housing having a fluid inlet defined therein; a motor disposed within a distal end of the housing; and an impeller, driven to rotate by the motor, and configured to push blood toward the fluid outlet.

Mechanical treatment of heart failure

Apparatus is provided for treating heart failure, the apparatus including one or more propeller blades and a controller, which is configured to rotate the one or more propeller blades to produce continuous non-pulsatile blood flow not synchronized with a cardiac cycle of a subject. An intra-atrial anchor includes a stent surrounding the one or more propeller blades. The intra-atrial anchor is coupled to the one or more propeller blades and configured to be anchored in a left atrium of the subject so as to position the one or more propeller blades in the left atrium oriented such that the one or more propeller blades, when rotated by the controller, draw blood from the left atrium and expel the blood in the left atrium toward a mitral valve, thereby increasing atrial pressure above the mitral valve. Other embodiments are also described.
