Flow control system
A control system is provided to restrict the flow rate of blood in a venous line 12 of a perfusion system 1 comprising a reservoir 10 supplied by the venous line 12 and supplying an outgoing line 22. The control system comprises an outgoing flow sensor 32 configured to determine an outgoing flow value indicative of the outgoing flow rate in the outgoing line 22, and a controller configured to process the outgoing flow value and to determine if the outgoing flow value exceeds a pre-set pairing threshold. The system further comprises an adjustable restriction 28 for restricting the flow rate in the venous line 12 to maintain a venous flow rate that does not exceed a venous restriction threshold, wherein the adjustable restriction 28 is responsive to the controller and wherein the controller comprises a configuration allowing the controller to set the adjustable restriction at the level of the outgoing flow rate, to change the venous restriction threshold with the outgoing flow rate, if the outgoing flow value is above the pre-set pairing threshold.
Adaptive speed control algorithms and controllers for optimizing flow in ventricular assist devices
Method and systems control a rotational speed of a blood pump during ventricular diastole. A method includes controlling a blood pump in accordance with a first segment operational mode. A controller monitors the blood flow rate through the blood pump. The controller determines, based on the blood flow rate, whether continued controlling of the blood pump per the first segment operational mode would result in the blood flow rate through the blood pump being less than a target minimum blood flow rate. In response to a determination that continued controlling of the blood pump per the first segment operational mode would result in the blood flow rate through the blood pump being less than the target minimum blood flow rate, the controller controls the rotational speed of the blood pump so that the blood flow rate through the blood pump is approximate to the target minimum blood flow rate.
Ventricular Assist Device Method And Apparatus
Apparatus for use with a ventricular assist device that is assisting cardiac function of a biological subject, the apparatus including an electronic processing device that determines a flow rate of blood through the ventricular assist device, analyses the flow rate to determine a flow parameter value at least partially indicative of a change in the flow rate during diastole; and uses the flow parameter value to either derive at least one blood pressure parameter value at least partially indicative of a blood pressure in the biological subject or control the ventricular assist device.
IMPLANTABLE VASCULAR SUPPORT SYSTEM
The invention relates to an implantable, vascular support system (10) having a cannula (13) and an ultrasound measuring device (18), wherein the cannula (13) and the ultrasound measuring device (18) are disposed in the region of mutually opposite ends of the support system (10).
BLOOD CIRCULATION SYSTEM
An artificial heart and lung apparatus includes a roller pump; a blood removal line; a first blood transfer line; a blood removal rate sensor; a control unit that performs the linked control of the roller pump in correspondence with a blood removal rate; and a blood transfer rate adjustment unit that instructs the roller pump to transfer a blood transfer rate. The blood transfer rate adjustment unit includes an operation amount input unit to which an operation amount from an arbitrary circumferential position can be input, and which outputs a pulse signal according to the input operation amount. A counter adds and subtracts pulse signals output from the operation amount input unit, and outputs a resultant as blood transfer rate adjustment data. The counter performs a counting operation with respect to the circumferential position of the operation amount input unit when blood transfer control transitions to the normal control.
Retroperfusion systems, devices, and methods
Devices, systems, and methods for providing retroperfusion to at least one ischemic tissue in a minimally invasive manner are disclosed. At least some of the embodiments disclosed herein enable an anastomosis to be formed between a vein and an artery without the use of sutures and through a non-invasive procedure. In addition, various disclosed embodiments provide a cannula device comprising a Y-configuration for bifurcating arterial flow between an anastomosis and the underlying artery. The devices, systems and methods herein can further provide simultaneous autoretroperfusion therapy to more than one area of an ischemic tissue.
Device and method for comminution of circulating tumor cell clusters
Device and method for comminution or inactivation of circulating tumor cells (CTC) or tumor cell clusters (CTCC) from a tumor-affected organ or organ part, wherein it is proposed that in the venous drain of the tumor-affected organ or organ part a pump (2) with a pressure-increasing section and a pressure-reducing throttle (13) is arranged and is operated at the output side in its design point given by volumetric flow (Q) and pumping pressure (p) according to the volumetric flow and the blood pressure of the venous drain of the tumor-affected organ or organ part. Circulating tumor cells (CTC) and tumor cell clusters (CTCC) are thus comminuted and inactivated to thus reduce the risk of metastasis formation in cancerous diseases.
BLOOD TREATMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS
The present invention generally relates to hemodialysis and similar dialysis systems, including a variety of systems and methods that would make hemodialysis more efficient, easier, and/or more affordable. One aspect of the invention is generally directed to new fluid circuits for fluid flow. According to one aspect, a blood pump is configured to pump blood to a dialyzer of a hemodialysis apparatus, the blood pump comprising a pneumatically actuated or controlled reciprocating diaphragm pump. In an embodiment, the diaphragm of the pump comprises a flexible membrane formed or molded to generally conform to a curved inner wall of a pumping chamber or control chamber of the pump, wherein the diaphragm is pre-formed or molded to have a control side taking a convex shape, so that any elastic tension on the diaphragm is minimized when fully extended into a control chamber of the pump. In another aspect, a system for monitoring the adequacy of blood flow in a blood line of the hemodialysis apparatus allows a controller to suspend dialysate pumping operations if the adequacy of blood flow in the blood line is sub-optimal, and to present information on a display on the quality of blood flow in the blood line.
Method and computer system for processing a heart sensor output
The disclosure relates to a method and system for processing a heart sensor output, wherein a blood flow and a simulated aortic blood pressure are derived from a sensed blood pressure using an arterial flow model and values for arterial flow parameters. The simulated aortic blood pressure is matched to a part of the sensed blood pressure in the cardiac cycle by manipulating at least one of the values for the arterial flow parameters of the arterial flow model.
