VENTRICULAR ASSISTANCE SYSTEM AND METHOD
A system for providing ventricular assistance to a heart of a subject, the system including a balloon configured to be inserted into a ventricle of the heart, wherein the balloon is configured to differentially inflate to thereby urge blood towards a semilunar valve of the ventricle; a fluid conduit in fluid communication with the balloon; a pumping mechanism attached to the fluid conduit; and, a controller configured to control the pumping mechanism to thereby selectively supply fluid into the balloon so as to inflate the balloon at least partially in accordance with the cardiac cycle.
APPARATUS, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR PERCUTANEOUS PNEUMATIC CARDIAC ASSISTANCE
A cardiac assist system includes a pneumatic effector which is implanted beneath a pericardial sac and over a myocardial surface overlying the patient's left ventricle. A port is implanted and receives a percutaneously introduced cannula. The port is connected to supply a driving gas received from the cannula to the pneumatic effector. An external drive unit includes a pump assembly and control circuitry which operate the pump to actuate the pneumatic effector in response to the patient's sensed heart rhythm. A connecting tube has a pump end connected to the pump and a percutaneous port-connecting end attached to the implantable port.
Implantable blood pumps comprising a linear bearing
Systems and methods for generating blood flow with a pump incorporating linear bearing technology are provided. The pump may include an actuator assembly, a moving assembly, and a linear hydrodynamic or thin-film bearing positioned within a housing. The moving assembly may include at least one magnet and the actuator assembly may include a magnetic assembly for selectively generating a magnetic field to cause linear reciprocating movement of the moving assembly with respect to the actuator assembly. The linear hydrodynamic or thin-film bearing may include a bearing portion on the moving assembly that is in fluid communication with a bearing portion on the actuator assembly or pump housing. The system may involve an implantable pump, an extracorporeal battery and a controller coupled to the implantable pump. The implantable pump may be suitable for use as a left ventricular assist device (LVAD).
Blood pump
The invention concerns a control device for controlling a blood flow of an intravascular blood pump for percutaneous insertion into a patient's blood vessel, the blood pump comprising a pump unit with a drive unit for driving the pump unit and configured to convey blood from a blood flow inlet towards a blood flow outlet, wherein the control device is configured to operate the blood pump in a selectable zero-flow control mode, wherein a blood flow command signal is selected, and the control device comprises a first controller and a second controller, wherein the first controller is configured to control the blood flow by adjusting a speed command signal for the drive unit, and the second controller is configured to control a drive speed of the drive unit.
Blood pump devices and associated systems and methods
The present technology provides a blood pump device and associated systems and methods of use thereof to assist blood circulation in a patient. The blood pump device includes a flexible member disposed within a housing. Movement of the flexible member in the housing varies the volume of chambers within the housing and effectuates pumping of blood to and from a vessel in fluid connection with a chamber of the blood pump device.
Cardiac pump with speed adapted for ventricle unloading
A blood pump system is implantable in a patient for ventricular support. A pumping chamber has an inlet for receiving blood from a ventricle of the patient. An impeller is received in the pumping chamber. A motor is coupled to the impeller for driving rotation of the impeller. A motor controller is provided for tracking systolic and diastolic phases of a cardiac cycle of the patient and supplying a variable voltage signal to the motor in a variable speed mode to produce a variable impeller speed linked to the cardiac cycle. The impeller speed comprises a ramping up to an elevated speed during the diastolic phase in order to reduce a load on the ventricle at the beginning of the systolic phase.
Circulatory assistance device
Circulatory assistance device for a heart of a living being, including a cuff for periodically applying pressure to the heart by at least one dielectric elastomer membrane which is controllable by a control device in synchronization with a cardiac beat in order to convey blood in pulses, wherein the cuff is designed to be pulled over the outside of the heart and for this purpose has an inner shape that is adapted to the outer contour of the heart at least in the region outside the ventricles, wherein the cuff is composed of an outer contraction layer including the dielectric elastomer membrane and an inner padding layer, and the inner padding layer is filled with an incompressible liquid and has at least one outlet valve, which is closed in a normal state and opened in an emergency state.
System for Cardiac Assistance, Method for Operating the System and Cardiac Support Method
An extracorporeal cardiac assistance system, comprising a pump being configured to create a fluid flow from a suction line to a pressure line of the system; further comprising a control device configured to control the pump and/or an adjustable flow limiter to provide an adjustable flow rate and/or a pressure, wherein the control device is configured to execute a support mode with a plurality of consecutive support flow rate pulses and/or support pressure pulses interposed on the fluid flow and to execute a weaning mode with a plurality of such pulses, wherein an amount of energy provided to the fluid flow with each pulse is lower in the weaning mode than in the support mode.
