APPARATUS FOR RECEIVING DISCHARGED URINE
An example device suitable for collecting and transporting urine away from the body of a person may include a fluid impermeable housing defining an internal volume. The device can include a porous material disposed within the internal volume. The fluid impermeable housing can define an opening in fluid communication with the internal volume. The porous material includes a contact surface and first and second sidewalls. The sidewalls can extend from the contact surface, for example, substantially orthogonal to the contact surface, or laterally and inwardly from the contact surface at an acute angle.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR RECEIVING DISCHARGED URINE
A system suitable for collecting and transporting urine away from the body of a person or animal may include an assembly having a fluid impermeable casing having a fluid reservoir at a first end, a fluid outlet at a second end, and a longitudinally extending fluid impermeable layer coupled to the fluid reservoir and the fluid outlet and defining a longitudinally elongated opening between the reservoir and the outlet. The assembly can further include a fluid permeable support disposed within the casing with a portion extending across the elongated opening, and a fluid permeable membrane disposed on the support and covering at least the portion of the support that extends across the elongated opening, so that the membrane is supported on the support and disposed across the elongated opening. The assembly can further include a tube having a first end disposed in the reservoir and a second, fluid discharge end.
Device for midstream sample collection from a catheterized subject and method and systems for use thereof
Disclosed herein are devices and methods for collecting samples of bodily fluid that may be substantially free of contamination, even where an initial amount of contamination may be present in a collection device, such as a urethral catheter. In the disclosed device and methods, the sample may be collected mid-stream, after an initial amount of fluid has flushed away the initial contamination. The disclosed devices may include a diverter device comprising a fluid control valve that may manually be moved between a first position and a second position that, respectively, direct fluid to two different channels and/or receptacles.
ADAPTERS FOR FLUID COLLECTION DEVICES
Examples relate to fluid collection assemblies, systems, and methods for collecting fluid from a wearer of the fluid collection assembly. The fluid collection assemblies include a fluid collection device attachable to an adapter. The fluid collection device includes porous material disposed within a fluid impermeable barrier. The adapter includes an interfacing body having at least one orifice and at least one attachment feature for attaching the adapter to the fluid collection device such that the porous material is fluidly connected to the at least one orifice. A fluid collection system includes a fluid collection device operably coupled to a fluid storage container and vacuum source via one or more sections of conduit.
Negative Pressure Therapy System
Negative pressure therapy systems are provided for increasing urine production, the negative pressure therapy system including: (a) a pump assembly, the pump assembly including: (i) a pump configured to provide negative pressure to a kidney, and (ii) a controller configured to regulate the negative pressure provided by the pump within a pressure range that facilitates increased urine production from the kidney.
External Catheter Assembly
An external catheter assembly for facilitating non-invasive catheterization includes a male catheter that is wrappable around a penis to capture urine from the penis. A first tube is fluidly coupled to the male catheter to receive the urine from the penis. A first collection bag is fluidly coupled to the first tube to capture the urine from the penis. A female catheter is positionable within the labia minora of a female patient to capture urine from the female patient. A second tube is fluidly coupled to the female catheter to receive the urine from the female patient. A second collection bag is fluidly coupled to the second tube to capture the urine from the female patient.
HYDROPHILIC MEDICAL DEVICE ASSEMBLY
A medical device assembly comprises a medical device, such as a urinary catheter, comprising an insertable part and a non-insertable part. The insertable part comprises an elongate shaft provided with a hydrophilic coating or surface. The assembly further comprises a wetting fluid compartment arranged to encircle at least a part of the medical device, and preferably at least a part of the non-insertable part, and an aqueous fluid arranged in the wetting fluid compartment. At least one of the aqueous fluid and the hydrophilic coating or surface comprises at least one surfactant. The hydrophilic coating or surface is maintained essentially separated from the aqueous fluid, and arranged to become wetted by movement of the elongate shaft through the wetting fluid compartment.
CONTAINER FOR COLLECTING LIQUID FOR TRANSPORT
A container for collecting liquid for transport, comprising: a web of flexible porous material defining at least a portion of a chamber in which liquid can be collected for transport. The chamber is configured to receive a tube in a position within the chamber that enables the tube to transport liquid from the chamber while the liquid collects within the chamber upon being drawn through the web when a partial vacuum is applied within the chamber via the tube. The porous material comprises a web of spun plastic fibers, such as spun polyester fibers. In one embodiment, the web of spun plastic fibers is configured to define an elongated portion of the chamber. In another embodiment, a backing of non-permeable material covers a portion of the web and is so combined with the web as to further define the chamber.
