A dual-motor power system or a dual-motor hybrid power system for a vehicle comprises a first motor, a second motor, an intermediate shaft, a first gear set disposed between a first driving shaft, and an intermediate shaft. The first driving shaft couples with the intermediate shaft via the first gear set, a second gear set disposed between the second driving shaft and the intermediate shaft, and a single synchronizer disposed around the second driving shaft. The synchronizer can be switched between a neutral position, a first-speed-ratio position, and a second-speed-ratio position. In the neutral position, the second driving shaft is decoupled from the first and second gear sets. In the first-speed-ratio position, the synchronizer couples the second driving shaft with the intermediate shaft via the first gear set. In the second-speed-ratio position, the synchronizer couples the second driving shaft with the intermediate shaft via the second gear set.

Further, the first differential mechanism includes a first rotational element coupled to the electric motor, a second rotational element coupled to the engine, and a third rotational element that outputs power toward drive wheels, the second differential mechanism includes a sun gear coupled to the electric motor, a carrier coupled to the engine, a ring gear whose rotation is regulated by the selectable one-way clutch, and a ring gear flange that rotates integrally with the ring gear, and the selectable one-way clutch switches a state thereof between a locked state and an unlocked state, and the ring gear flange is supported by a rotor shaft of the electric motor via a radial bearing.

Transition is made from a motor single-drive mode to a motor dual-drive mode while there is a margin in torque output from a motor MG2 with respect to rated torque. With this, the torque of the motor MG1 is changed slowly in the motor dual-drive mode, whereby it is possible to suppress the generation of vibration (shock) due to torsion of a damper and to compensate for a shortage of the torque of the motor MG1 due to slow change processing with an increase in torque from the motor MG2. As a result, it is possible to achieve both of reduction of a shock due to the torque of the motor MG1 and output of required torque to a drive shaft.

The freewheel device is in a freewheeling state at a first rotational speed and in a coupled state at a second rotational speed. The second rotational speed is higher than the first rotational speed.
