Protective material
10006743 · 2018-06-26 ·

A material that is capable of stopping high-speed projectiles but yet is sufficiently flexible for use in various applications, such as to be used in footwear to protect a person's feet, especially the bottoms thereof is achieved by an enhanced ballistic material formed from interleaving layers of a ballistic material and layers of a gel matrix material that remains relatively soft and flexible. The ballistic material layer may be high tensile strength synthetic or polymeric fibers that are arranged in a mesh weave. Preferably the gel matrix material is capable of investing the ballistic material, e.g., by having the gel matrix material fill the interstices of the fibers, which may be achieved through the use of heat and/or pressure. Furthermore, the combined material, i.e., the enhanced ballistic material, may be shaped, e.g., by molding.

A laminate comprising at least one layer of a first thermoplastic resin composition alternately stacked with at least two layers of a second thermoplastic resin composition so that the outermost layers are the layers of the second thermoplastic resin composition, wherein the first thermoplastic resin composition comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and modified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymers, and the second thermoplastic resin composition has a different composition from the first thermoplastic resin composition, and wherein, in any adjacent pair of the layer of the first thermoplastic resin composition and the layer of the second thermoplastic resin composition, the layer of the first thermoplastic resin composition and the layer of the second thermoplastic resin composition have a specific tensile modulus ratio and a specific thickness ratio.

Multilayer rotational moulding

A multilayer article prepared by rotational moulding can include a layer A that is a polyolefin (PO) based layer prepared from PO and a functionalised polyolefin (FPO), or a PO grafter to a non-polyolefin (NPO) in the form of a block copolymer (PO-g-NPO). A layer B can be a PO that is dissimilar from layer A, an NPO, a mixture thereof, and optionally an FPO or a PO-g-NPO. A layer C can be dissimilar from layer A and similar to or dissimilar from layer B. Layer C can be adjacent to layer A and/or layer B, can have good adhesion to layer A and/or layer B, and is not a blend of layer A and layer B. A method of preparing the multilayer article can include rotational moulding.

Beach umbrella with a transparent or translucent film canopy which allows sunlight to pass but filters out ultraviolet rays

This invention relates to a type of sunshade that has the distinctive feature of allowing sunlight and heat to pass, but prevents the passage of ultraviolet rays. The device, of conventional configuration, has a film consisting of three layers. Each layer consists of copolymers. Additives are added to these layers to absorb and stabilize ultraviolet rays. The invention allows the user, at the beach for example, to sunbathe and feel its warmth, while being protected from the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays.
