GOLF BALL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
In a golf ball having a core and a cover of one or more layer encasing the core, an outermost layer of the cover is molded of a thermoplastic material selected from the group consisting of polyurethane, polyurea and mixtures thereof, and the surface of the cover is treated with a polyisocyanate compound that is free of organic solvent. A method of manufacturing the golf ball is also described. Such golf balls are endowed with an excellent spin performance and scuff resistance, in addition to which productivity of the golf balls is high.

A golf ball 2 includes an inner core 4, an outer core 6, a mid layer 8, and a cover 10. A diameter D1, a volume V1, a hardness H1o at a central point, and a boundary inside hardness H1in of the inner core 4; a volume V2, a boundary outside hardness H2out, and a surface hardness H2s of the outer core 6; a thickness Tm and a hardness Hm of the mid layer 8; and a thickness Tc and a hardness Hc of the cover 10 meet the following mathematical formulas (1) to (4): 1.0<V2/V1<7.0 (1); 2<H2sH2out<2 (2); 600<(H1o+H1in)*(D1/2)/2<1000 (3); 620<Tc*Hc*Hm/Tm<900 (4). The cover 10 includes a polyrotaxane.

The invention provides a golf ball having a core and a cover of one or more layer encasing the core, wherein the cover has an outermost layer molded of a thermoplastic material selected from the group consisting of polyurethane, polyurea and mixtures thereof and, letting the absorbance peak heights near a wave number of 1512 cm.sup.1 measured by the attenuated total reflectance method in Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy (FT-IR/ATR spectroscopy) at an outside portion and an inside portion of the outermost cover layer be respectively P.sub.1 and P.sub.2, the value P.sub.1P.sub.2 is at least 0.02.

Three-cover-layer golf ball having transparent or plasticized polyamide intermediate layer
A golf ball includes a core and a three-layer cover disposed adjacent the core. The three-layer cover includes an inner cover, an intermediate cover, and an outer cover. The inner cover includes a non-ionomeric E/Y copolymer where E is an olefin and Y is a carboxylic acid. The inner cover has a hardness of about 45 to 68 Shore D. The outer cover includes a castable thermoset polyurethane and has a hardness of about 40 to 62 Shore D. The intermediate cover layer, disposed between the inner and outer cover layers, is formed from a polyamide composition, where the polyamide composition includes a transparent polyamide having a light transmission of about 50% or greater.
Medium gradient dual core golf ball
A golf ball includes an inner core layer having a first surface hardness and a geometric center hardness. The center hardness is less than the first surface hardness to define a first positive hardness gradient of about 1 to 12 Shore C. An outer core layer has a second surface hardness. A cover layer is formed over the outer core layer. The second outer surface hardness is greater than the geometric center hardness to define a second positive hardness gradient of about 12 to 22 Shore C.
Dual cured castable hybrid polyurethane/polyurea system for use in golf balls
Compositions for golf balls that include polyurethane and polyurea linkages and that are crosslinked in the soft segments of the polymer backbone. In particular, the compositions of the invention, which are based on a polyurethane and/or polyurea prepolymers, have improved crosslink density from the crosslinking between the soft, unsaturated segments of the polymer backbone. The curative blend includes at least one isocyanate-reactive component and a free radical initiator.
MEDIUM GRADIENT MULTI-PIECE URETHANE COVERED GOLF BALL
A golf ball includes a core having an outer surface and a geometric center; an inner cover layer, and an outer cover layer. The inner cover layer includes an ionomeric material and has a material hardness of about 60 Shore D or greater. The outer cover layer is formed from a polyurea or polyurethane and has a material hardness of about 60 Shore M or greater. The outer surface of the core has a hardness of about 68 to 92 Shore C. The geometric center of the core has a hardness of about 45 to 85 Shore C. The core outer surface hardness is greater than the geometric center hardness by about 5 to 21 Shore C to define a positive hardness gradient.
