A golf ball with improved durability is disclosed herein. The golf ball has a core comprising a polybutadiene material and methyl methacrylate, butadiene, styrene (MBS) with a weight percentage of MBS ranging from 0.5 to 5 weight percent of the core.

GOLF BALLS HAVING LAYERS MADE OF SILICONE ELASTOMER AND POLYURETHANE BLENDS

Multi-layered golf balls having at least one layer made from silicone (polysiloxane) elastomers; silicone (polysiloxane) elastomer/polyurethane blends; polycarbonate-polysiloxane blends and copolymers; and polycarbonate-polysiloxane/polyurethane blends are provided. For example, three-piece, four-piece, and five-piece golf balls containing different core and cover structures can be made. The polysiloxane compositions have good thermal stability and durability without sacrificing resiliency. The polysiloxane compositions also have high elongation, tensile strength, chemical/fluid-resistance, and weatherability properties. These compositions can be used to form any layer, for example, core, intermediate, or cover, in the golf ball.

GOLF BALL RUBBER COMPOSITION AND GOLF BALL USING THE SAME

An object of the present invention is to provide a cured product of a golf ball rubber composition capable of imparting excellent durability to a golf ball. The present invention provides a cured product of a golf ball rubber composition, wherein the golf ball rubber composition contains (a) a base rubber, (b) an ,-unsaturated carboxylic acid having 3 to 8 carbon atoms and/or a metal salt thereof as a co-crosslinking agent, and (c) a crosslinking initiator, and wherein an effective crosslinking density DC (mmol/cm.sup.3) of the cured product of the golf ball rubber composition and a tensile elastic modulus TM (MPa) between 0.05% strain and 0.25% strain of the cured product of the golf ball rubber composition satisfy a relation of TM3.33In(DC)>(0.10).

GOLF BALL

In a golf ball having a core of at least one layer and a cover of one or more layer encasing the core, at least one layer of the cover is formed of a resin composition that includes (I) a polyurethane or a polyurea and (II) an aromatic vinyl elastomer which together satisfy certain specific conditions. The golf ball has an excellent controllability on approach shots and is also able to maintain a good scuff resistance.

A golf ball having a cover with a plurality of dimples on the surface thereof is provided with a coat of mutually differing properties on dimple areas of the surface and on land areas between the dimples. The dimple areas are formed with a coat having a low coefficient of friction, do not affect the spin performance when the ball is struck and are not prone to staining. The land areas are formed with a coat having a high coefficient of friction, enabling a lower spin rate to be achieved and thus increasing the distance traveled by the ball, particularly when struck with a middle iron, and also help impart a high spin rate and a good controllability on approach shots.

A golf ball 2 includes a main body 4 and a paint layer 6 positioned outside the main body 4. The main body 4 includes a spherical core 8, a mid layer 10 positioned outside the core 8, and a cover 12 positioned outside the mid layer 10. An outer surface of the paint layer 6 forms a surface of the golf ball 2. A contact angle CAw with respect to water measured on the surface of the golf ball 2 is not less than 70 degrees. The paint layer 6 is preferably formed from a resin composition. A preferable resin composition includes a polyurethane as a base resin and includes a silicone compound and/or a fluorine compound. Another preferable resin composition includes a silicone compound and/or a fluorine compound as a base resin and includes no polyurethane.
