The present disclosure provides a golf ball comprising a spherical core and a cover, wherein a hardness difference (C1-C0), a hardness difference (C2-C1), a hardness difference (C3-C2) and a hardness difference (C4-C3) are more than 0 and 6.0 or less, a hardness difference (C5-C4) is 5.0 or more, and a hardness difference (C6-C5), a hardness difference (C7-C6) and a hardness difference (C8-C7) are more than 0 and 3.5 or less where C0 (center), C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7 and C8 (surface) are a Shore C hardness at each point from the center obtained by dividing a radius of the spherical core into equal eight parts.

The present invention provides methods for producing molded golf balls and the resultant balls. The methods of this invention involve producing foamed polyurethane covers and these methods help reduce dimple distortions and other surface imperfections. These golf balls contain an inner core and outer foamed polyurethane cover. One or more intermediate layers can be disposed between the core and cover. In one embodiment, a castable liquid polyurethane composition containing a foaming agent is dispensed into mold cavities, which are then pressed together to form a foam cover for the ball.

A method of producing a golf ball applies ultrasonic welding on two half shells to form at least one intermediate layer, at least one cover layer, or at least one intermediate layer and at least one cover layer. The ultrasonic welding may include pressing the two half shells together, delivering a high power electrical signal to a welding stack, and converting the high power electrical signal at the welding stack to ultrasonic energy. The converting may include converting the high power electrical signal into a mechanical vibration, modifying an amplitude of the mechanical vibration to generate a modified mechanical vibration, and applying the modified mechanical vibration to an interface of the two half shells to weld them together ultrasonically. Aspects also relate to golf balls, or one or more layers thereof, made using ultrasonic welding.

An indentation depth, measured when the paint layer 6 in a cross-section along a plane passing through a central point of the golf ball 2 is pressed by a force of 30 mgf in a direction perpendicular to the cross-section, is not less than 300 nm and not greater than 3000 nm. The paint layer 6 preferably has a thickness of not less than 5 μm and not greater than 50 μm.
