Multi-piece golf balls containing a dual-core structure are provided. The core structure includes an inner core (center) comprising a foam composition, preferably foamed polyurethane. The outer core layer is preferably formed from a non-foamed thermoset composition such as polybutadiene rubber. The inner and outer core layers can have different hardness gradients. The ball further includes a cover of at least one layer and may include at least one casing layer. The core structure and resulting ball have relatively good resiliency.
GOLF BALLS HAVING A FOAM INNER CORE WITH THERMAL BARRIER
Golf balls having a multi-layered core made of a foamed composition are provided. The core assembly preferably includes a foam inner core (center) and surrounding outer core layer. Preferably, a polyurethane foam composition is used to form the foam center. The core layers have different hardness gradients and specific gravity values. The foamed inner core assembly includes a geometric center, outer surface (skin), and thermal barrier layer that helps protect the foamed center region from the negative effects of high temperatures used during the ball-manufacturing process. Non-foamed thermoset materials such as polybutadiene rubber may be used to form the thermal barrier layer. The foam cores have good resiliency, thermal stability, and durability over a wide temperature range. The ball further includes a cover that may be multi-layered.
Method of golf ball manufacture employing ultrasonic welding, and resulting golf ball and golf ball components and/or layers
A golf ball a core, one or more intermediate layers, and one or more cover layers. The core may comprise an inner portion and an outer portion. One or more layers of the golf ball may be formed by the application of ultrasonic welding on two half shells to form. One or more of the layers may be formed by a number of different chemical compositions, and may have varying thicknesses, hardnesses, coefficients of restitution, and PGA compression. The golf ball itself may have varying coefficient of restitution and PGA compression, depending on the layers.
Multi-layered golf balls having foam center with selective weight distribution
Multi-layered golf balls having a core made of a foamed composition, preferably polyurethane foam, are provided. The ball includes a dual-layered core having a foam inner core (center) and surrounding outer core layer. The outer core layer may be made from a non-foamed thermoset material such as polybutadiene rubber. The ball further includes an inner cover, preferably made from an ionomer composition comprising an O/X-type acid copolymer, wherein O is -olefin, and X is a C.sub.3-C.sub.8 ,-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. The outer cover may be made from a non-foamed thermoset or thermoplastic material such as polyurethane. Preferably, the specific gravity of the inner cover is greater than the specific gravity of the outer core, which is greater than the specific gravity of the inner core. The finished ball has good distance and low-spin properties.
GOLF BALL
A golf ball includes a core and a cover. The cover has a shore D hardness of not less than 50. The cover has a thickness of not less than 1.00 mm. The golf ball has a plurality of dimples 10 on a surface thereof. A standard deviation Su of areas of all the dimples 10 is not greater than 1.7 mm.sup.2. A standard deviation Pd of distances L between dimples of all neighboring dimple pairs is less than 0.500 mm. A dimple pattern of each hemisphere of a phantom sphere of the golf ball includes three units (T1, T2, T3) that are rotationally symmetrical to each other. A dimple pattern of the unit T1 includes two small units (T1a, T1b) that are mirror-symmetrical to each other.
GOLF BALL
A golf ball 2 includes a main body 4 and a paint layer 6 positioned outside the main body 4. The main body 4 includes a spherical core 8, a mid layer 10 positioned outside the core 8, and a cover 12 positioned outside the mid layer 10. An outer surface of the paint layer 6 forms a surface of the golf ball 2. A contact angle CAw with respect to water measured on the surface of the golf ball 2 is not less than 70 degrees. The paint layer 6 is preferably formed from a resin composition. A preferable resin composition includes a polyurethane as a base resin and includes a silicone compound and/or a fluorine compound. Another preferable resin composition includes a silicone compound and/or a fluorine compound as a base resin and includes no polyurethane.
GOLF BALLS CONTAINING MULTI-LAYERED CORES WITH HEAT-ACTIVATED FOAM CENTER
Multi-layered, golf balls having a core made of a foamed composition are provided. The core preferably has a foam inner core (center) and surrounding thermoset or thermoplastic outer core layer. Preferably, a polyurethane foam composition comprising secondary blowing agents that are activated by heat is used to form the foam center. Non-foamed thermoset materials such as polybutadiene rubber may be used to form the outer core layer. The core layers have different hardness gradients and specific gravity values. The foam cores have good resiliency, thermal stability, and durability over a wide temperature range. The ball further includes a cover that may be multi-layered.
