Multi-piece golf balls having a multi-layered solid core and multi-layered cover are provided.
MULTI-LAYER GOLF BALL
Multi-piece golf balls having a multi-layered solid core and multi-layered cover are provided.
MULTI-PIECE SOLID GOLF BALL
In a multi-piece solid golf ball having a core, a cover and an intermediate layer therebetween, the core, an intermediate layer-encased sphere and the ball have surface hardnesses which satisfy a specific relationship, and the intermediate layer and the cover have thicknesses which satisfy a specific relationship. Also, the core has a hardness profile in which the hardnesses at the core surface, core center, a position 5 mm from the core center, and a position midway between the surface and center of the core satisfy specific relationships. This golf ball, when used by mid- and high-level amateurs, enables the golfer to maintain an adequate distance on shots with a driver and achieve a good distance on iron shots, has a good spin performance on approach shots and has a good feel on impact. In addition, the ball has an excellent scuff resistance when struck with a grooved wedge.
GOLF BALL
A golf ball includes a main body and a paint layer positioned outside the main body. The paint layer includes an inner layer and an outer layer positioned outside the inner layer. When an indentation depth (nm) is measured on a cross-section along a plane passing through a central point of the golf ball when a force of 30 mgf is applied to the cross-section in a direction perpendicular to the cross-section, an indentation depth Di on a cross-section of the inner layer is smaller than an indentation depth Do on a cross-section of the outer layer. A thickness To of the outer layer is larger than a thickness Ti of the inner layer.
GOLF BALL HAVING AT LEAST ONE LAYER CONSISTING OF A MIXTURE OF A THERMOSET OR THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITION AND A PLURALITY OF ALKOXYLATED SILOXANE-SURFACE TREATED PARTICLES AND/OR POLYETHER-MODIFIED SILOXANE-SURFACE TREATED PARTICLES
Golf ball having CoR of at least 0.700 and Atti compression of at least about 50 and comprising layer comprising a mixture of ionomer composition and a plurality of particulates, at least some being surface-treated with alkoxylated siloxanes and/or polyether-modified siloxanes, and selected from titanium dioxide particles, barium sulfate particles, zinc sulfide particles, and/or zinc oxide particulates. At least some particulates may be contacted with compound having the formula:
##STR00001##
Compound (I) may be included in amount of 0.01 to 2% by weight based on total weight of portion of plurality being contacted. The plurality may be included in mixture in amount such that the layer has specific gravity of from 0.5 to about 5.0, tensile strength of from about 300 psi to about 50,000 psi, and elongation at break of from about 20% to about 1000%, each being greater than that of the ionomer composition portion of the mixture.
GOLF BALL
An object of the present invention is to provide a golf ball having excellent resilience. The present invention provides a golf ball comprising a spherical core and at least one cover covering the spherical core, wherein the spherical core is formed from a rubber composition containing (a) a base rubber, and (b) a co-crosslinking agent containing (b1) a carboxylic acid represented by a structural formula (1) and/or a metal salt thereof.
##STR00001##
[In the formula (1), A.sup.1 to A.sup.4 each independently represents a nitrogen atom or a carbon atom. X.sup.1 represents a single bond or a divalent organic group. R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group. It is noted that at least one of A.sup.1 to A.sup.4 is the carbon atom, and X.sup.1 and R.sup.1 bond to the carbon atom. n represents an integer of 0 to 3. When n is 2 or more, a plurality of R.sup.1 may be identical to or different from each other, and a plurality of R.sup.1 may bond to each other to form a ring structure.]
GOLF BALLS HAVING FOAM, HOLLOW, OR METAL CENTER AND PLASTICIZED THERMOPLASTIC CORE LAYER
Multi-layered golf balls containing a dual-core structure are provided. The core structure includes an inner core (center) made from a foam or metal-containing composition, or it has a hollow shell construction, and the outer core layer is made of a thermoplastic composition. Preferably, the thermoplastic composition comprises: a) ethylene acid copolymer, b) plasticizer, and c) cation source. A fatty acid ester such as ethyl oleate is preferably used as the plasticizer. The core assembly preferably has a positive hardness gradient extending across the entire assembly. The core structure and resulting ball have relatively good resiliency at given compressions.
GOLF BALL INCORPORATING AT LEAST ONE LAYER OF NEUTRALIZED ACID POLYMER COMPOSITION CONTAINING LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT ACID WAX(ES) AS SOLE ACID POLYMER COMPONENT AND LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT NON-ACID WAX(ES) IN THE NON-ACID POLYMER COMPONENT
Golf ball comprising layer(s) comprised of a mixture of: (a) low molecular weight acid-containing wax(es); (b) non-acid-polymer(s) including at least one low molecular weight non-acid wax such as high density oxidized polyethylene homopolymers; ethylene maleic anhydride copolymers; polypropylene maleic anhydride copolymers; polypropylene homopolymers; ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers; high density oxidized homopolymers; oxidized copolymers; polyethylene micronized waxes; polytetrafluoroethylene micronized waxes; emulsifiable low molecular weight non-acid waxes; non-emulsifiable low molecular weight non-acid waxes; and/or chemically modified low molecular weight non-acid waxes; and (c) organic acid(s) or salt thereof. Molecular weight of each low molecular weight acid-containing wax is about 500 to 7000, or up to 30,000. Interactions between components (a), (b), and (c) advantageously produce layer of ionomeric material having heat stability, processability, and well-retained durability, adhesion, CoR, compression and targeted feel without need for blending high and low molecular weight acid-containing polymer(s).
Multi-piece solid golf ball
In a golf ball having a core, envelope layer, intermediate layer and cover, the core has a specific hardness profile, the resin materials making up either or both of the envelope layer and the intermediate layer has a material hardness on the Shore D hardness scale of at least 65 and has a specific gravity of at least 1.05, and the Shore C hardness relationships among the core center, surface of the envelope-encased layer and surface of the intermediate layer-encased sphere satisfy the following conditions:
surface hardness of envelope layer-encased sphere<surface hardness of intermediate layer-encased sphere,(1)
surface hardness of intermediate layer-encased sphere?center hardness of core?40.(2)
This ball achieves a good distance on shots with utility and iron clubs, is receptive to spin in the short game, and has a soft feel at impact on all shots, making it useful to amateur golfers.
MULTI-PIECE SOLID GOLF BALL
In a golf ball having a core, an intermediate layer and a cover, the ball and the sphere obtained by encasing the core with the intermediate layer have respective surface hardnesses such that (surface hardness of ball)<(surface hardness of intermediate layer-encased sphere); the ball has an initial velocity of ?75.0 m/s; and the core has a hardness profile in which the center hardness, the hardness at a midpoint between the core center and core surface, and the hardnesses at specific positions inward from the midpoint and at specific positions outward from the midpoint are optimized. Given the possibility that the rules limiting the distance traveled by a golf ball on shots by long hitters will change, this ball reduces the drop-off in distance on driver shots and iron shots taken by average hitters while increasing the drop-off in distance on driver shots taken by long hitters.
