Golf ball

A golf ball includes a core, a mid layer, and a cover. A ratio R1 calculated by mathematical formula (1): R1=(Df1−Df2)/(Df2−Df3) is not less than 5.00. A ratio R2 calculated by mathematical formula (2): R2=(T2*H2)/H3 is not less than 2.00. A ratio R3 calculated by mathematical formula (3): R3=D1/T3 is less than 50. In mathematical formulas (1) to (3), Df1 represents an amount of compressive deformation of the core, Df2 represents an amount of compressive deformation of a sphere including the core and the mid layer, Df3 represents an amount of compressive deformation of the golf ball, T2 represents a thickness of the mid layer, H2 represents a hardness of the mid layer, H3 represents a hardness of the cover, D1 represents a diameter of the core, and T3 represents a thickness of the cover.

In a golf ball having a core and a cover, the cover is formed primarily of polyurethane, dimples formed on the cover have a volume occupancy ratio VR of from 0.80 to 0.92%, the ball has a weight of not more than 45.0 g and, in an impact test carried out by hitting the ball with a driver at a head speed of 40 m/s, the sum t1+t2 of the time t1 required from initial contact by the driver with the ball for deformation of the ball to reach a maximum and the time t2 required from the state of maximum ball deformation for the ball and driver to separate is not more than 660 μsec. This golf ball makes it possible for golfers who have a high head speed and ordinary golfers who do not to compete without relying excessively on superiority in terms of distance.

In a golf ball having a core, envelope layer, intermediate layer and cover, the (core diameter)/(ball diameter) value falls within a particular range, the core has a specific hardness profile, the intermediate layer is formed primarily of an ionomer resin material including a high-acid ionomer resin, and the Shore C hardness relationships among the core center and surface hardnesses and the surface hardnesses of the envelope layer-encased sphere, intermediate layer-encased sphere and ball satisfy the following conditions: (1) core surface hardness<surface hardness of envelope layer-encased sphere<surface hardness of intermediate layer-encased sphere>ball surface hardness, (2) (surface hardness of envelope layer-encased sphere)−(core center hardness)≥28. Also, the intermediate layer and cover have respective thicknesses which satisfy the condition: (3) cover thickness<intermediate layer thickness. This ball enables mid-level and skilled amateur golfers to achieve superior distances on driver shots and on iron shots, and moreover has a soil yet good feel at impact.

Rubber composition for golf ball, and golf ball

A rubber composition for golf balls includes (A) a base rubber, (B) an acrylate ester or methacrylate ester containing an isocyanate group or a blocked isocyanate group, (C) diacrylic acid, dimethacrylic acid or a metal salt thereof, and (D) an organic peroxide. In a golf ball having a core formed of the rubber composition and a cover of one or more layers which encases the core, the rubber composition exhibits a spin rate-lowering effect on shots and can thus improve the flight performance of the ball.

GOLF BALL

A golf ball can include a core, a mid layer, and a cover. The golf ball can satisfy the following mathematical formulas (1) and (2),

(Fa/Fan)≤0.90  (1),

(Fa/Fan).sup.2/(Fp/Fpn)≤0.90  (2),

wherein Fa represents a maximum vertical force of the golf ball measured under a first condition. Fan represents a maximum vertical force of a standard ball measured under the first condition, Fp represents a maximum vertical force of the golf ball measured under a second condition, and Fpn represents a maximum vertical force of the standard ball measured under the second condition.
