Swing quality measurement system

A system that measures a swing of a bat with one or more sensors and analyzes sensor data to create swing quality metrics. Metrics may include for example rotational acceleration, on-plane efficiency, and body-bat connection. Rotational acceleration measures the centripetal acceleration of the bat along the bat's longitudinal axis at a point early in the rotational part of the swing; it is an indicator of the swing's power. On-plane efficiency measures how much of the bat's angular velocity occurs around the swing plane, the plane spanned by the bat and the bat's sweet spot velocity at impact. Body-bat connection measures the angle between the bat and the body tilt axis, which is estimated from the trajectory of the hand position on the bat through the swing; an ideal bat-body connection is near 90 degrees. These three swing quality metrics provide a simple and useful characterization of the swing mechanics.

Optionally adjustable swing training apparatus with audible and/or haptic feedback

A Swing Trainer provides a transverse slide mechanism that generates an audible and/or haptic click in response to a smoothness of a swing of a sports-related implement. In other words, the Swing Trainer clicks in a way that a user can either or both hear and/or feel during a swing of the sports-related implement. Such sports-related implements include, but are not limited to, golf clubs, tennis racquets, hockey sticks, baseball bats, lacrosse sticks, cricket bats, or any other sports-related implement wherein smoothness of a user swing is desirable. The Swing Trainer rotatably couples a proximal end to a distal end of the sports-related implement. Further, the Swing Trainer generates the audible and/or haptic click when a sliding force imparted to the Swing Trainer by the swing exceeds a static holding force of the transverse slide mechanism. Typically, the sliding force exceeds the static holding force during an improper user swing.

Swing analysis method using a sweet spot trajectory

A method for analyzing sensor data from baseball swings (or swings in similar sports) that transforms data into a reference frame defined by the bat orientation and velocity at impact. The trajectory of the sweet spot of the bat is tracked through the swing, and is analyzed to generate metrics describing the swing. A two-lever model of the swing may be used to model the effects of body rotation and wrist rotation. Data may be analyzed to identify relevant events during the swing such as start of downswing, commit (wrist release), on-plane, peak bat speed, and impact. Illustrative swing metrics derived from the sweet spot trajectory, the swing plane reference frame, and the two-lever model include: forward bat speed, on-plane rotation, hinge angle at commit, hinge angle at impact, body rotation ratio, body tilt angle, and swing plane tilt angle.

A signaling device, and in particular a signaling device for a striking implement such as a tennis racket, a golf club or the like, for generating signals during a movement of the signaling device (10), including a resonant body and a holding device, wherein the resonant body and the holding device are to be connected to one another or connectable to one another, so as to attach the resonant body by way of the holding device to a striking implement or the like, wherein the resonant body furthermore includes a cavity for generating an acoustic signal during a movement, wherein the resonant body has a single opening which has a fluidic operative connection to the cavity and by way of which the cavity is fluidically connected to the surrounding area.

Sports swing training device

A sports swing training device is attachable to a sports striking-object, such as a golf club, tennis racket, or baseball bat, and uses multiple motion sensors, including accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers, in conjunction with one or more microprocessors and device displays, to measure and display various swing metrics and to project flight patterns resulting from each swing. Swing data are displayed in graphic and/or indicia format, on the device's displays and are wirelessly transmitted to the displays of one or more external devices, such as smart phones or tablet computers. The projected flight patterns reveal flaws in the swing so as to promote corrective adjustments by the athlete.
