A novel monofilament trimmer line is provided for reducing noise, reducing air drag and increasing durability by having a non-round cross-sectional shape defined as a polygon with three to six sides wherein the vertices between adjacent sides have been replaced with generous circular arcs, the arcs of a parabola, or even other arc shapes so long as the arc is convex and contains no sharp edges and wherein each arc is tangent to the two adjacent sides with a smooth and continuous transition, and the sides of the polygon are either straight or slightly convex, but not concave.

Helical-bladed cutting reel

A helical-bladed cutting reel includes a central shaft having a central axis of rotation, and a plurality of helical blades. Each of the blades extends along a respective helical path on an outer surface of the central shaft. A direction of each respective helical path has both an axial component and a circumferential component relative to the central axis of the central shaft as it extends across the outer surface of the central shaft. Each of the helical blades is welded directly to the central shaft. In preferred embodiments all of the blades are continuously autogenously welded directly to the central shaft.

The motor (50) includes a motor output shaft (44) and the motor output shaft (44) includes an output shaft axis of rotation (46). The mobile work system (20) still further includes a gear box (50) operably connected to the drive wheel (34) and the motor output shaft (44). The single motor (50) urges rotation of both the rotating blade assembly (36) and the drive wheel (34). The gear box (50) can include a planetary gear set (104) including a ring gear (110) defining cavities (120) at its outside diameter (124). A locking shaft (126) can rotate between an engaged position and a disengaged position with one of the cavities (120).

Plant trimming apparatus and methods

An apparatus for trimming plant material includes a rotatable tumbler through which the plant material is to be axially propagated while rotationally tumbling, and a plurality of cutting reel systems adjacent the tumbler. The plurality of cutting reel systems includes a first cutting reel system adjacent the tumbler, and a second cutting reel system adjacent a landing zone of the rotatable tumbler. The landing zone is an angular range about the axis of the tumbler within which plant material tends to land on the tumbler after tumbling through a central volume of the tumbler.
