The present invention relates to a permanent shaping composition for the permanent deformation of hair comprising, in a cosmetically acceptable carrier, at least one reducing agent comprising a mercapto functional group, at least one alkalizing agent, and a malodor suppressant system comprising at least a first malodor suppressant, herein the first malodor suppressant has a molecular weight of from 100 to 400 g/mol, and wherein the malodor suppressant system has a distribution coefficient log P (octanol/water) of 2 or more.

The instant disclosure relates to methods for treating chemically relaxed hair. The methods include applying a neutralizing composition to the chemically relaxed hair, the neutralizing composition comprising: at least 0.5 wt. % of at least one carboxylic acid, one or more C.sub.2-C.sub.6 monoalkanolamines, and water. The neutralizing composition is allowed to remain on the hair for a period of time. The hair is also treated with a neutralizing conditioner, which is a different than the neutralizing composition. The neutralizing conditioner includes: at least 0.5 wt. % of at least one carboxylic acid, one or more C.sub.2-C.sub.6 monoalkanolamines, one or more cationic surfactants, and water. The neutralizing conditioner is allowed to remain on the hair for a period of time. After treatment with a neutralizing composition and a neutralizing conditioner, the hair may be further treated with a shampoo, a conditioner, a conditioning shampoo, etc., dried, and/or styled.

Formulations, kits, and methods for rebuilding the disulfide bonds in keratin found in hair, skin, or nails. Hair that is damaged due to a hair coloring treatment and/or other reducing treatment, such as during a permanent wave, can be treated with the formulations containing one or more active agents. The formulations may be applied subsequent to a hair coloring treatment or simultaneously with a hair coloring treatment. Use of the active agent formulations during a permanent wave treatment prevents the reversion of the hair to its previous state, for at least one week, preferably at least three months, more preferably at least one year, most preferably greater than one year, after one or more than one application of the formulation. Application of the active agent formulation to skin or nails can help repair damaged disulfide bonds due to natural wear and tear or natural aging.

Aspects of hair styling instruments and methods for styling hair into waves and curls have been provided herein. In one embodiment, a system for styling hair includes one or more cases for receiving hair therein, the one or more cases including a base having at least a bottom, a center, and an outer annular wall; and a lid coupleable with the base; wherein the lid and the base form a volume for receiving the hair and wherein at least the bottom of the base and an indented upper portion of the lid each include a plurality of openings to allow flow of air and liquids through the case; and a stand, the stand comprising a base; a center piece extending upward from the base, the center piece configured to receive the one or more cases thereon; and a heating element.
