A hair retaining device comprising a rod with two elongate helical coils surrounding a portion of the rod. The coils are attached only at one end of the rod and are offset from one another by 180 degrees. In use, the end of the rod is slid through a desired hair style using a weaving motion to pick up small portions of the hair. To remove the device, the rod is unscrewed to loosen from the hair strands and the rod is then pulled out of user's hair.

There is provided a hair fastener. The hair fastener has an elongate body made of an elastic material stretchable under tension for maximizing holding capability of hair and a locking means at least part of which made of a stiff material. The locking means includes a first member and a second member arranged at opposite ends of the body. The first member and the second member are releasably engageable with each other by way of a mechanical interference fit in that engagement of the first and second members is achieved independent of degree of tension of the elastic body and engagement or disengagement of the first and second members is achieved by way of one hand operation of a user. The fastener is adapted to assume a first configuration in which the first member and second members are engaged before tying the hair and a second configuration in which the first and second members are disengaged whereby removal of the fastener from the hair in the second configuration minimizes movement of the fastener along the length of the hair and thus eliminating or at least reducing frictional contact with the hair. With this construction, majority part of the hair fastener can be made of a high friction material to provide improved gripping or holding security of hair and yet hair is not damage during removal of the fastener from user's hair.

A method and product for lifting the front of the hair out of a person's face preventing the shedding of stray hair and to give a person's hair volume with the added benefit of being making one's hair aesthetically pleasing. The product will be mainly comprised of plastic or acrylic with metal spring hinges. The product is usually in the form of a square with one side missing and slides into the front of the hairline pushing the hair back from the face, preventing stray hairs from being shed, and giving the hair volume. The plastic teeth along the back edge of the product slide into the hair and then lock the product in place so that it doesn't shift when a person is moving around or going about his or her usual business. The product may also be folded up via pushing the sides adjacent to the toothed edge inward so that the product is compact and easily stored.

The product's unique square shape allows for easy storage and for the hair to stay up when pushed back. The fact that the product is square instead of rounded creates a unique look when the product is used to push the hair back from the face. Rather than settling back into its natural position, the hair is forced to stay up inconformity with the right angles at either side of the product which would not occur had the product been rounded.
