The upward flow extraction method can comprise loading extraction material into an extraction cell having a bottom portion and a top portion; introducing a first aliquot of extraction medium through the bottom portion of the extraction cell; expelling gas from the extraction cell through the top portion of the extraction cell; closing the top portion of the extraction cell and increasing the pressure in the extraction cell as extraction medium flows into the bottom portion of the extraction cell; stopping the flow of extraction medium into the extraction cell; steeping the extraction material in the extraction medium under pressure to produce an extract; and introducing a second aliquot of extraction medium through the bottom portion of the extraction cell to push extract through top portion of the extraction cell.
SELF-CLEANING COFFEE MACHINE
A coffee machine has a body, a dispensing unit, a conduit, a supply and heating device, a filter holder, fast coupling/uncoupling means to couple the filter holder under the conduit, a control unit, a presence sensor to detect the presence of the filter holder under the conduit, and a switch to enable the passage of electrical current towards the supply and heating device and towards the dispensing unit when the presence sensor detects that the filter holder is uncoupled from the fast coupling/uncoupling means. The control unit has a timer to manage the opening/closing of the switch.
MACHINE OF THE PISTON TYPE FOR DISPENSING COFFEE OR OTHER BREWED BEVERAGES
A machine (100) for espresso coffee of the piston type is described. The machine comprises a cylinder (1), a piston (2) which is configured to perform a translation movement in said cylinder, a rod (4) having an end cooperating with said piston (2), an operating lever (5), a spring (3), a member (6) configured to cooperate with said rod (4) and to move said piston (2) from a first position to a second position in which said spring (3) is at least partially compressed, and an opening (71) for introducing water into said cylinder (1) configured so as to introduce water above the piston (2).
Beverage maker and method for determining hot water amounts output by a beverage maker and/or used in same for beverage preparation
A beverage maker includes a heating device for heating water, a cold water inflow, a first hot water outlet, at least one second hot water outlet, a cold water path connecting the cold water inflow to the heating device, a first hot water path connecting the heating device to the first hot water outlet, at least one second hot water path connecting the heating device to the at least one second hot water outlet, a conveying device for conveying water, a first flow meter that is arranged in the cold water path or in the first hot water path, and at least one second flow meter that is arranged in the at least one second hot water path. A method of determining hot water amounts dispensed by a beverage maker and/or hot water amounts used for beverage preparation is also disclosed.

An upward flow extraction method, apparatus, and extract are disclosed.
DEVICE FOR PREPARING A COFFEE PRODUCT
A device for preparing a coffee product comprises a preparation chamber (135) which is intended and configured to receive and collect a quantity of ground coffee in a coffee bed (125), and pump means (15) for carrying water under increased pressure to the preparation chamber. The preparation chamber (135) is provided with a water inlet (136) for water at increased temperature and pressure on a first side of the coffee bed (125) and with an outlet (137) on an opposite side beyond the coffee bed (125). The outlet is coupled via a liquid conduit (20) to an outflow (6) at which the coffee product can be taken away. The device is provided with an electronic control system (17) which imposes a preparation cycle each time a product is prepared. Accommodated here in the liquid conduit (20) between the outlet (137) of the preparation chamber (135) and the outflow (6) at which the coffee product can be taken away is an adjustable restriction (30) with a passage (35) which is proportionally adjustable and controllable by the control system (17).
COFFEE MAKER WITH FEATURES FOR RAPID AND/OR MULTIPLE EXTRACTION PROCESSES, AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Coffee makers with features for rapid and/or multiple extraction processes, and associated systems and methods, are disclosed. A representative method for brewing coffee includes placing ground coffee on a filter element of a brew chamber, directing heated water into the brew chamber and in contact with the ground coffee and, during a first phase, brewing coffee in the brew chamber without subjecting the coffee to a pressure differential of at least 150 torr between the brew chamber and a coffee chamber to which the brew chamber is coupled, the coffee chamber having a capacity of 200 mL or more. The representative method further includes, during a second phase, extracting the coffee from the brew chamber through the filter element and into the coffee chamber via a pressure differential of at least 150 torr between the brew chamber and the coffee chamber.
