Surgical device drive system including a ratchet mechanism
A surgical device drive system comprising a gear coupled to a drive train is disclosed. The gear is configured to transmit a proximal retraction motion to a drive member. The surgical device drive system further comprises a control system coupled to the gear, and a manual input device comprising an input component and a ratchet mechanism. The input component is selectively coupled to the gear by the ratchet mechanism. The drive train is operable in a distal advancement direction and in a proximal retraction direction. In a first state, the control system is configured to drive the gear and the drive train in the distal advancement direction and the proximal retraction direction. In a second state, the manual input device is configured to drive the gear and the drive train in the proximal retraction direction, but not the distal advancement direction, using the ratchet mechanism.

Combination ultrasonic and electrosurgical instrument with adjustable energy modalities and method for limiting blade temperature
An ultrasonic surgical instrument and method of limiting an ultrasonic blade temperature includes adjusting at least one power parameter of the ultrasonic energy in response to reaching a predetermined frequency parameter change threshold in the ultrasonic blade limiting the temperature of the ultrasonic blade to an upper temperature limit. The ultrasonic surgical instrument further includes an end effector having an ultrasonic blade, a jaw, and a controller. The jaw is movably positioned relative to the ultrasonic blade and configured to move between an open position and a closed position. The controller operatively connects to the ultrasonic blade and is configured to measure an ultrasonic frequency of the ultrasonic blade. The controller has a memory including a plurality of predetermined data correlations that correlate changes in measured ultrasonic frequency of the ultrasonic blade to a blade temperature of the ultrasonic blade.
ELECTROMAGNETIC ENERGY DELIVERY APPARATUS AND METHOD
An electromagnetic energy delivery apparatus comprises: an amplifier; an amplifier input configured to provide to the amplifier a signal to be amplified; bias circuitry configured to provide a bias signal to the amplifier, wherein amplifying of the input signal by the amplifier is dependent on the bias signal provided by the bias circuitry; an amplifier output configured to provide an output signal comprising an amplified version of the input signal, for providing energy delivery to a radiating element to produce electromagnetic radiation; and a controller configured to control operation of the bias circuitry to provide a time- varying bias signal thereby to provide a desired time variation of the output signal.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT COMPRISING A JAW ALIGNMENT SYSTEM
A surgical instrument comprising an end effector including a first jaw and a second jaw rotatable relative to the first jaw is disclosed. One or both of the first jaw and the second jaw comprise alignment features
AUTOMATIC IRRIGATION-COORDINATED LITHOTRIPSY
Systems and methods for controlling an energy output setting of a lithotripsy device during a lithotripsy procedure are provided. The system includes a laser or other lithotripsy device configured for facilitating the lithotripsy procedure, an irrigation system configured for supplying an irrigant such as saline to a surgical site, and a temperature sensor configured to provide temperature data associated with the irrigant. The system can modulate the energy output setting of the lithotripsy device based on an estimated temperature that is determined based at least in part on the temperature data and one or more other factors such as a current energy output setting or a flow rate of the irrigant.
