A knotless suture anchor may include an anchor body with a proximal end, a distal end, an interior longitudinal passageway, a proximal opening communicating with the longitudinal passageway nearer the proximal end, and a distal opening communicating with the longitudinal passageway nearer the distal end. A first suture portion extends within the longitudinal passageway between the proximal opening and the distal opening, a second suture portion is contiguous to the first portion and extending out of the anchor body, a third suture portion is contiguous to the second portion and extends within the longitudinal passageway proximally to distally, and a fourth suture portion is contiguous to the third portion, extending along the exterior surface distally to proximally. A proximal member may be joined to the anchor body by a frangible connection and may have a proximal member axial passage containing an interference member coaxially aligned with the longitudinal passageway.

A suture anchor including an outer anchor part and an inner anchor part. The outer anchor part includes a proximal end, a distal end, and an inner surface defining a center bore extending between the proximal end and the distal end. The center bore includes a tapered proximal portion. The inner anchor part includes a tapered outer surface defining a first pair of opposing apertures. Insertion of the inner anchor part into the tapered proximal portion of the outer anchor part enables a suture extending through the first pair of opposing apertures to be coupled to the suture anchor. A taper fit between the tapered proximal portion of the center bore of the outer anchor part and the tapered outer surface of the inner anchor part retains the inner anchor part within the outer anchor part.

TWO-PIECE KNOTLESS SUTURE ANCHOR

A suture anchor assembly includes a suture anchor and a suture anchor inserter. The anchor includes a flexible distal tip and a rigid proximal anchor body. The distal tip includes a transverse suture eyelet and a cavity formed in a proximal end of the tip. The anchor body includes a lumen extending between proximal and distal ends of the body. The anchor inserter includes a tubular outer shaft and an inner inserter slidably received therein. The anchor assembly is actuatable to move the anchor tip and inner shaft proximally while the outer shaft and anchor body remain in place, urging the proximal end of the anchor tip against the distal end of the anchor body. The proximal end of the tip is deformable to accommodate at least a portion of the distal end of the anchor body within the anchor tip cavity.

Transosseous suture anchor method

Methods are disclosed for attaching a suture to a bone. One exemplary method includes passing a portion of a suture through a bone so that a first portion of the suture extends from a first opening in the bone and a second portion of the suture extends from a second opening in the bone, passing the second portion of the suture through a portion of a suture anchor body in a proximal to distal direction, the suture anchor body having a proximal end and a distal end, passing the second portion of the suture alongside an outer surface of the suture anchor body in a distal to proximal direction, and then inserting the suture anchor into the bone through one of the first and second openings, the distal end being inserted first through the opening.

A method for repairing a soft tissue includes passing an asymmetric suture having a first region proximal to a first end of the suture, an asymmetric second region, and a third region proximal to a second end of the suture through a first suture anchor located at a first location on a bone beneath the soft tissue, passing the suture from the first suture anchor to a top surface of the soft tissue such that the first region of the suture forms a medial row, extending the suture along the top surface of the soft tissue such that the asymmetric second region of the suture forms a lateral row that lays across the top surface of the soft tissue, passing the suture through a second suture anchor located at a second location on the bone beneath the soft tissue, and tensioning the suture.

A suture anchor is disclosed having an outer body with an axial bore which receives and inner body for rotation. Suture passes between the inner body and outer body and rotation of the inner body wraps the suture thereabout locking the suture thereto. Rotation of the inner body also effects radial expansion of at least a portion of the outer body to engage to anchor into a bone hole.
