System for treating occlusions in body lumens
The invention provides a system for treating an occlusion within a body lumen. The system may comprise an insulated outer sheath; an elongated conductive tube, wherein the insulated outer sheath is circumferentially mounted around the elongated conductive tube; and an insulated wire having a helically coiled portion at a distal end of the insulated wire. The coiled portion includes an exposed distal tip, and a distal portion of the elongated conductive tube is circumferentially mounted around the distal coiled portion of the insulated wire. When a voltage is applied across the insulated wire and the elongated conductive tube, a current is configured to flow from the exposed distal tip of the insulated wire to the elongated conductive tube to generate a plurality of cavitation bubbles. In an alternate embodiment, an elongated central electrode is used in place of the conductive tube.
ADAPTIVE REFOCUSING OF ULTRASOUND TRANSDUCER ARRAYS USING IMAGE DATA
A dual-mode ultrasound system provides real-time imaging and therapy delivery using a transducer array. The system may use various imaging modes to provide image data that may be used to select control points within an imaging field of view. The control points along with the image data may be used to solve an optimization problem to achieve desired focusing gains at one or more of the control points. The optimized solution may be used to produce excitation waveforms to generate new image data. The focusing gains may be evaluated and the optimization problem may be iterated until desired focusing gains are achieved. Virtual arrays may be defined and cascaded to provide flexibility in solving the optimization problem.
MINIMALLY INVASIVE HISTOTRIPSY SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A histotripsy therapy system configured for the treatment of tissue is provided, which may include any number of features. Provided herein are systems and methods that provide efficacious non-invasive and minimally invasive therapeutic, diagnostic and research procedures. In particular, provided herein are optimized systems and methods that provide targeted, efficacious histotripsy in a variety of different regions and under a variety of different conditions without causing undesired tissue damage to intervening/non-target tissues or structures.
Cavitation seed for drug delivery, and drug delivery method using same
A cavitation seed for drug delivery, and a drug delivery method using the same are disclosed. The cavitation seed according to the present invention comprises: a shell which forms the outer surface thereof to maintain the outer shape thereof within a fluid; and a core which is located inside the shell to determine buoyancy of the cavitation seed within the fluid. The cavitation seed can improve an effect of delivering a drug into a body since cavitation is induced by ultrasound at a position close to the epidermis. In addition, the cavitation seed can be applied in the delivery of various drugs as well as skin cosmetics, such as skin tone lightening agents, depilatories, hair restorers and skin fillers, skin analgesics, local anesthetics, agents for genetic diseases such as psoriasis, and agents for treatment of skin disease such as skin cancer.

Power parameters for ultrasonic catheter
An ultrasound catheter system and a method for operating an ultrasonic catheter at a treatment site within a patient's vasculature or tissue are disclosed. The ultrasound catheter system comprises a catheter having at least one ultrasonic element and a control system configured to generate power parameters that drive the at least one ultrasonic element to generate ultrasonic energy. The control system is configured to vary at least one of the power parameters and at least one physiological parameter by repeatedly cycling the power parameter and the physiological parameter through two set of values.
MICROBUBBLE SIGNAL BASED TEMPORAL-BONE THICKNESS COMPENSATION FOR SONOTHROMBOLYSIS
An ultrasonic intracranial sonothrombolysis pressure amplitude is pre-quantified by using an ultrasound-scanner control unit (110) having an increasing and/or decreasing mode and designed for: with respect to a current mode, interrogating a blockage site iteratively so as to progressively and respectively increase or decrease a pressure amplitude of ultrasound being emitted to the site at which bubbles (144) for oscillating that is caused by the emitted ultrasound are present; iteration to iteration, deriving, from echoes of the emitted ultrasound, a magnitude of an energy of a signal; and automatically identifying, for the quantifying, an iteration that, in comparison with a just-previous iteration, fails to increase the magnitude. The interrogating may span a region that contains or goes through: the obstruction; another part of the blood vessel; and bubble circulation within a neighboring vessel and a neighboring capillary (136). The deriving can be based on an ultraharmonic signal, with band-pass filtering being utilized to extract the ultraharmonic signal from returning signals differenced to remove stationary content.
