Feedback mechanisms for handle assemblies

A handle assembly for actuating an end effector includes a feedback mechanism for providing an audible and/or tactical response to indicate to the user that the handle assembly is fully actuated. The feedback mechanism may include a hammer member configured to strike a surface of the handle assembly to create the audible and/or tactical response.

Surgical instruments and methods for performing tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, and other surgical procedures

An end effector assembly for a surgical instrument includes first and second jaw members, each including a jaw frame, spacer, electrically-conductive plate, and outer housing. The jaw frame includes at least one proximal flange and a distal jaw support extending distally therefrom. The spacer defines a body and a wing disposed on either side of the body. The body defines a channel configured to receive the distal jaw support while each wing defines a slot. The plate defines a tissue-contacting portion and first and second legs extending perpendicularly from the tissue-contacting portion. The tissue-contacting portion is configured to sit atop the body of the spacer. Each of the legs is configured for receipt within the slot defined within one of the wings. The outer housing at least partially surrounds the distal jaw support, spacer, and legs and is configured to retain these components in position relative to one another.

Medical manipulator

A medical manipulator includes a trigger lever operated by hands, a shaft that extends from a body in which the trigger lever is provided, and a tip operating unit that is provided at a tip of the shaft. The tip operating unit includes an end effector to which the operation of the trigger lever is mechanically transmitted and in which the operation is performed, and a detection mechanism that detects an operation state of the first input unit.

Friction reduction mechanisms for handle assemblies

A handle assembly for actuating of a surgical end effector is provided. The handle assembly includes a friction reducing mechanism. The friction reducing mechanism may be mounted within a housing of the handle assembly and engage a drive member of the handle assembly. Alternatively, the friction reducing mechanism may be disposed on the drive member. The friction reducing mechanism instead or also includes a bearing member disposed between a trigger member and the housing of the handle assembly.

Provided is a medical treatment tool, the distance between a first advance and retraction axis, and a tip end is shorter than the length of the first link member, and the length when a line segment connecting the base end and the center of a forceps rotation shaft is projected on the first advance and retraction axis is shorter than the length is projected on the first advance and retraction axis. The distance between a second advance and retraction axis, and a tip end is shorter than the length of the second link member, and the length when a line segment connecting the base end and the center of a forceps rotation shaft is projected on the second advance and retraction axis is shorter than the length projected on the second advance and retraction axis.

End effector with a clamp arm assembly and blade

An end effector of a surgical instrument may generally comprise a blade, and a clamp arm assembly comprising a clamp arm movable between an open position and a closed position relative to the blade, and at least one camming member rotationally attached to the clamp arm, wherein the at least one camming member is configured to rotate relative to the blade as the clamp arm moves from the open position to the closed position.

Staple cartridge comprising an implantable layer

A surgical end effector comprising a staple cartridge, an anvil, and a compressible portion intermediate the staple cartridge and the anvil is disclosed. The compressible portion comprises a plurality of tubular members.

Medical tools having tension bands

A medical device includes a first link, a second link, and a band. A proximal end portion of the first link is coupled to a shaft. A proximal end portion of the second link is rotatably coupled to a distal end portion of first link about a first axis. The distal end portion of the second link includes a connector coupled to a tool member that is rotatable relative to the second link about a second axis that is non-parallel to the first axis. The first link defines a first guide channel and the second link defines a second guide channel. A distal end of the band is disposed within the first guide channel and the second guide channel, and is coupled to the tool member. The second link is rotatable relative to the first link about the first axis when the distal end of the band is moved.

Forceps jaw flanges

Forceps can include a drive pin, an outer tube, a first jaw, a second jaw, and an inner shaft. The outer tube can extend along a longitudinal axis. The first jaw can be pivotably connected to the outer tube. The first jaw can include a first flange that can be located at a proximal portion of the first jaw. The first flange can include a first chamfered edge configured to limit extension of the first flange laterally beyond an outer surface of the outer tube when the first jaw is in a closed position. The inner shaft can be located within the outer tube and can extend along the longitudinal axis.

Handling of fasteners within a surgical instrument

Surgical instruments and their methods of use are disclosed. In some embodiments, the surgical instrument may include a handle and an elongated shaft assembly extending distally from the handle. The surgical instrument may also include a fastener deployment system for deploying fasteners from the elongated shaft assembly including a reciprocating driveshaft disposed within the elongated shaft assembly. The driveshaft may include an internal channel and at least one guide surface shaped and arranged to maintain an orientation of at least one fastener in the channel of the driveshaft. In other embodiments, the fastener deployment system may include a follower disposed within the elongated shaft assembly for displacing one or more fasteners within the elongated shaft assembly towards a distal fastener deployment position.
