An end effector drive mechanism has first and second pulleys and first and second jaws configured as a torque-amplifying tool assemblies. Each pulley jaw pair is configured as kinematic assembly having a compact footprint that can amplify outputs to increase the grip force applied by the jaws. The end effector drive mechanism is within a pulley envelope defined by the first and second pulleys. In certain configurations, the tool assemblies are configured to produce a grip force independent from a push-pull force that is exerted on (or by) the jaws. In certain configurations, the tool assemblies are configured to prevent undesirable reverse rotations and limit the range of travel of the jaws (or pulleys).

STAPLE CARTRIDGE COMPRISING A VARIABLE THICKNESS COMPRESSIBLE PORTION

A fastener cartridge can comprise a support portion, a tissue thickness compensator positioned relative to the support portion, and a plurality of fasteners positioned within the support portion and/or the tissue thickness compensator which can be utilized to fasten tissue. In use, the fastener cartridge can be positioned in a first jaw of a surgical fastening device, wherein a second jaw, or anvil, can be positioned opposite the first jaw. To deploy the fasteners, a staple-deploying member is advanced through the fastener cartridge to move the fasteners toward the anvil. As the fasteners are deployed, the fasteners can capture at least a portion of the tissue thickness compensator therein along with at least a portion of the tissue being fastened.

CLIP APPLIER COMPRISING INTERCHANGEABLE CLIP RELOADS

A surgical device for clipping tissue is disclosed. The surgical device comprises a housing, a shaft extending from the housing, and a first reload releasably attachable to the shaft. The first reload comprises a first end effector and a first clip magazine including a plurality of first clips. The surgical device further comprises a second reload releasably attachable to the shaft when the first reload is not attached to the shaft. The first reload and the second reload are different sizes. The second reload comprises a second end effector and a second clip magazine including a plurality of second clips.

FORCE TRANSMISSION MECHANISM FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENT, AND RELATED DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS

A force transmission mechanism for a teleoperated surgical instrument includes a drive pulley, a drive cable operably coupled with the drive pulley, a driven pulley operably coupled with the drive cable, and an actuation member operably coupled to the driven pulley. The actuation member is configured to transmit force to actuate an end effector of the surgical instrument. Rotational motion of the driven pulley causes translational movement of the actuation element to actuate the end effector. Methods relate to operating a force transmission mechanism.

Clip applier comprising a reciprocating clip advancing member

A surgical device for clipping tissue is disclosed. The surgical device comprises a housing comprising a motor configured to output rotary motions, a shaft, and a clip applier head. The clip applier head comprises a clip magazine, an end effector, a jaw closure cam, and a clip advancing member. The clip magazine comprises a plurality of clips. The end effector comprises a first jaw and a second jaw movable relative to each other between an unclamped position and a clamped position. The jaw closure cam is configured to move the first jaw and the second jaw toward the clamped position. The clip advancing member is operably attachable to the jaw closure cam. The clip advancing member is configured to move a clip from the clip magazine into a firing position. The jaw closure cam and the clip advancing member are configured to move in opposite directions at the same time.
