Bone positioning and cutting system and method
A method of performing bunion surgery may involve attaching a bone positioning device to a first metatarsal and to a first cuneiform across a joint separating the first metatarsal from the first cuneiform. Attaching the bone positioning device can include inserting a first fixation pin into one of the first metatarsal or the first cuneiform and inserting a second fixation pin into an other of the first metatarsal or the first cuneiform. The method can involve using the bone positioning device to adjust an alignment of the first metatarsal relative to the first cuneiform; and, after adjusting the alignment of the first metatarsal relative to the first cuneiform using the bone positioning device, fixing a position of the first metatarsal relative to the first cuneiform with a bone connector.
Fixing clamp and aligning device
A fixing clamp for an aligning device, and an aligning device that includes the fixing clamp, for clamping to a bodily extremity. The clamp includes a first clamp arm, a second clamp arm and a frame device having an attaching section for attaching to an adjustment rod. The first clamp arm is rotatably attached to a first rotary joint about a first axis of rotation, and the second clamp arm is rotatably connected to a second rotary joint about a second axis of rotation. A locking mechanism locks the first clamp arm and/or the second clamp arm relative to the frame device in at least one position, and blocks movement of the first or second clamp arm about the respective rotary joint in an open rotational direction.
BONE POSITIONING AND CUTTING SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method of performing a bunion surgery may involve positioning a first portion of a bone positioning device over a first cuneiform and positioning a second portion of the bone positioning device over a first metatarsal with the bone positioning device extending across a joint separating the two bones. The second portion of the bone positioning device can be adjusted relative to the first portion about a first axis and about a second axis. The method may involve moving the second portion of the bone positioning device relative to the first portion of the bone positioning device about the first axis and the second axis, thereby moving the first metatarsal relative to the first cuneiform in a first plane and a second plane. The method may also involve fixing a position of the first metatarsal relative to the first cuneiform with a bone connector.
BONE POSITIONING AND CUTTING SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method of performing a bunion surgery to correct an alignment between a first metatarsal and a first cuneiform may involve aligning a bone cutting guide with a joint between the first metatarsal and the first cuneiform. The bone cutting guide can have a joint plate offset from a guide feature, with the joint plate extending downwardly relative to the guide feature. The process of aligning the bone cutting guide with the joint may involve inserting the joint plate into the joint. The method may involve using the guide feature of the bone cutting guide to guide a cutting tool to cut a leading edge of the first metatarsal and adjusting an alignment of the first metatarsal relative to the first cuneiform using a bone positioning device. The method may also involve fixing a position of the first metatarsal relative to the first cuneiform with a bone connector.
Orthopedic external fixation device
An orthopedic system includes a universal joint. The universal joint includes a ball from which a stem extends, a housing, and a connecting piece. The housing includes a first portion and a second portion that together define a spherical internal volume that is sized and configured to receive the ball therein. The first portion defines a first opening through which at least one of a portion of the ball or a portion of the stem extends, and the second portion defining a second opening therethrough. The connecting piece includes a first threaded stem portion, a second threaded stem portion, and a middle portion disposed between the first and second threaded stem portions. The first threaded stem portion is sized and configured to be received within the second opening defined by the second portion and to contact the ball to generate a frictional interference to lock the universal joint.
ANATOMIC EXTERNAL FIXATION DEVICE
A clamping device for an external fixation system includes a clamp body including, a first jaw and a second jaw, wherein the first jaw and the second jaw form a groove configured to receive an external fixation component and a bore configured to receive a bone pin. The clamping device includes a locking assembly coupled to the clamp body and configured to change state between at least an unlocked state and a locked state, wherein the external fixation component is configured to translate within the groove and the bone pin is configured to translate within the bore when the locking assembly is in the unlocked state, and the first jaw and the second jaw restrict movement of the external fixation component within the groove and the bore restricts the bone pin from translating within the bore when the locking assembly is in the locked state.
COUPLED TORSIONAL FIXATOR AND METHOD OF USE
An apparatus and method for external anteversion correction of an intact bone may include a first arcuate segment, a second arcuate segment rotatably coupled to the first arcuate segment, a first pin extending from the first arcuate segment to a proximal segment of the intact bone, a second pin extending from the second arcuate segment to a distal segment of the intact bone, and a control mechanism attached to the first and second arcuate segments. The control mechanism may rotate the first arcuate segment relative to the second arcuate segment to exert torsional force on the intact bone between the proximal and distal segments of the intact bone, thereby externally reducing anteversion of the intact bone.
EXTERNAL FIXATION STRUT
An external fixation strut and corresponding systems and methods of use with a bone alignment device are disclosed. The external fixation strut may provide an enhanced range of adjustable lengths and may be connected to a bone alignment device, thereby enabling the bone alignment device to be used over a larger workable range. As a result, comfort of a patient may be improved as the need to switch out the external fixation strut may be prevented. The external fixation strut may also include a single measurement scale that may be easily viewed and used to adjust the length of the external fixation strut, thereby ensuring more accurate length adjustments.
Multiple track system for positioning of bone segments
The present invention presents various embodiments showing combination of a body, rods, platforms and pin (or wire) clamps for the relative fixation of separated bone segment. In some embodiments there is an overall linear arrangement of the assemblies. The rods are threaded and extend lengthwise throughout a substantial portion of the length of the body. Engaged with the threaded rods are one or more moveable platforms, with each moveable platform engaging one or more pin clamps. Preferably each moveable platform includes at least one tapped (generally threaded) hole and at least one smooth through-hole in each moveable platform, so that each moveable platform engages with one threaded rod via the tapped hole but can pass freely along the other threaded rod. Each body also typically bears at least one stationary platform, generally at or near one end of the device.
