Modular pedicle screw system
Provided is a modular pedicle screw assembly which includes various components that may be configured in various manners so as to provide different functionalities to the pedicle screw assembly. This advantageously decreases surgery time, reduces repetitive and tedious surgical steps, and allows for streamlining inventory of expensive medical equipment. In one embodiment, a pedicle screw assembly includes a pedicle screw, a rod holding element, an insert, a rod, and a set screw. The insert may have a uniplanar configuration which allows movement of the insert, prior to final attachment, in a plane of motion. The insert may optionally have a monoaxial configuration which prevents movement of the insert. A method is also provided for securing a rod to a pedicle screw assembly. Also provided is an assembly tool for use in assembling a pedicle screw assembly.
Spinal correction and secondary stabilization
Methods of correcting a spinal deformity, including securing a first rod on a first side of a spine, securing an anchor on a second side of a spine, securing a lateral coupling between the rod and the anchor, translating and derotating the spine to correct the spinal deformity by adjusting an effective length of the lateral coupling, and securing a second rod on a second side of the spine to provide secondary stabilization to the spine.
MEDICAL DEVICE FOR INTRAOPERATIVE MEASUREMENT AND INTERPRETATION OF BONE DENSITY DURING SPINAL SURGERY
Provided are bone quality and/or strength measuring devices. In some embodiments, the devices include a body and a detector disposed therein designed to interact with a bone, determine the quality and/or strength thereof, and communicate an evaluation thereof to a user. The presently disclosed devices can also include a torque and/or force sensor that facilitates placement of the device and/or that is in communication with the detector to cause the detector to evaluate the bone; an output that feedback to a user based on the quality and/or strength of the bone determined by the detector, and/or a piston that interacts with the detector to cause the detector to interact with and thereby evaluate the bone. Also provided are methods for determining if a region of a bone is appropriate for placement of an orthopedic hardware piece and methods for reducing risk of a complication of spinal surgery associated with failure of an orthopedic hardware piece.
PEDICLE SCREW HAVING A REMOVABLE ROD COUPLING
A pedicle screw for spinal fixation having a bone fastener portion a permanent rod coupling, a breakaway portion connected to the permanent rod coupling and a temporary rod coupling. A permanent rod can be positioned in the permanent rod coupling and a temporary rod can be positioned in the temporary rod coupling and when the temporary rod is not needed the temporary rod coupling can be removed by separation at a breakaway portion.
Cervical vertebra fixing plate maintaining natural height, cervical vertebra anterior fixation and fusion system maintaining natural height and method thereof
The present disclosure relates to a cervical vertebra anterior fixation and fusion system maintaining natural height and the fixing plate. The fixing plate is provided with a plate body, wherein the plate body is provided with windows, locking members and screw fixing holes to be matched with screws. A minimum distance between an upper side wall and a lower side wall of the window in a vertical axis direction is 3-8 mm; and a minimum distance between a left side wall and a right side wall of the window in a transverse axis direction is 12.1-18 mm. The present disclosure further relates to a method for performing anterior cervical intervertebral disc resection and fusion by applying the fixation and fusion system.
SPRING CAGE SPINAL FIXATION SYSTEMS
Spinal fixation apparatus with a first end for selectively flexing to expand in diameter when receiving a head of an engagement member, the engagement member for coupling to a portion of a spine and a flexible sidewall between the first end and a second end, the flexible sidewall to selectively expand in length, between the first end and the second end, when the first end is not in receipt of the head of an engagement member and alternatively to contract in length when the first end is in receipt of the head of the engagement member.
SPINAL CORRECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD
A surgical instrument comprises a first arm connected with a longitudinal element and a first spinal construct. The first arm is connected with the longitudinal element and includes a body engageable with a first spinal construct and rotatable relative to the first arm in a first orientation and a second orientation. A second arm is axially translatable relative to the first arm and includes a body engageable with a second spinal construct and is rotatable relative to the second arm in a first orientation and a second orientation. The bodies include locks. In some embodiments, spinal constructs, implants, systems and methods are disclosed.
SPINAL CORRECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD
A surgical instrument comprises a fulcrum including a first surface that defines a cavity configured for disposal of a first implant support such that the fulcrum is movable relative to the support. The first surface is rotatable relative to the fulcrum to engage the support and fix the first surface with the support. A second surface is engageable with a second implant support. In some embodiments, spinal constructs, implants, systems and methods are disclosed.
Universal anchor for bone fixation
The present invention relates to a bone-fixation anchor comprising a rigid expandable part and a soft part. The rigid expandable part secures the anchor with respect to the bone and the soft part enables the anchor to fit any bone screw on the market.
Orthopaedic implant with sensors
A monitoring system includes: (1) an implant having at least one sensor and configured for at least partial insertion into a patient, a first one of sensors being in contact with a perimeter of a hole in a body portion of the implant for accepting a fastener; (2) a microchip associated with the implant and the sensor, the microchip configured to receive at least a first signal from the sensor; (3) a transmitter associated with the microchip for transmitting a second signal, representative of the first signal; (4) a receiver located outside of the patient, the receiver configured receive the transmitted second signal; and (5) a display device associated with the receiver, the display device configured to provide an audible or visual representation of the second signal to a user.
