STRUCTURE HAVING VARIABLE DIAMETER
20170348022 · 2017-12-07 ·

The present invention relates to a structure having a variable diameter, the structure including: a bolt which extends in a longitudinal direction; a body which is disposed at one side of the bolt so as to surround the bolt; a core which is disposed in the longitudinal direction of the bolt; a plurality of extensions which is radially disposed outside the core; and a plurality of outer shells which surrounds the extensions so as to correspond to the extensions, in which the extensions are expanded outward or contracted in a direction toward a center thereof by the core in accordance with a rotation direction of the bolt, such that a diameter of an outer circumferential surface of the extensions is changed.

In described embodiments, an implant assembly includes a first implant having a body with a first end and a second end and a hollow passage extending therethrough between the first end and the second end. The first implant is sized for insertion into a first bone segment. A connector has a first end rotatably connected to the first implant at the first end of the first implant, a second end insertable into a second bone segment, and a connector body extending through the hollow passage of the first connector. A method of inserting the implant assembly is also provided.

INTRAMEDULLARY IMPLANT WITH PROXIMAL PLATE AND METHOD FOR ITS USE

An orthopedic implant is specifically configured for use in osteotomies, in which part of the implant extends into an intramedullary portion of a first bone segment and a plate portion is external to the cortical surface of an adjacent bone segment to fix the segments to allow them to fuse. The body of the implant has a first end and a second end where the end which is inserted into the bone has a chamfer and a through hole having a hole axis optionally at an oblique angle to the longitudinal axis of the implant, and which can receive a screw, peg or pin. The second end of the implant includes a plate portion with at least two offset screws.

Tension band systems and methods

A bone fixation assembly may include an elongate fixation member and a flexible tensioning element. The elongate fixation member may include a central longitudinal axis, a distal portion couplable to a first bone fragment of a bone, and a proximal portion couplable to a second bone fragment of the bone to provide fixation of the second bone fragment relative to the first bone fragment. The flexible tensioning element may be couplable to the proximal and distal portions of the elongate fixation member to secure the elongate fixation member to the bone. The flexible tensioning element may be configured to span a bone fracture intermediate the first bone fragment and the second bone fragment to preload the bone fracture in compression to resist tensile force imparted across the bone fracture, thereby maintaining fixation of the first bone fragment relative to the second bone fragment.

This invention relates to a coupling for an orthopaedic device. Also disclosed in an orthopaedic device comprising a coupling of the invention and method for the use of the orthopaedic device. The orthopaedic device finds utility as a bolt apparatus for fixation of bones such as fractures of the femur, although it may be used in any suitable bone.

INTRAMEDULLARY FIXATION DEVICE WITH SHAPE LOCKING INTERFACE
20220354549 · 2022-11-10 ·

Implantable devices for fixation of curved bones such as the pelvic ring pubic symphysis and acetabulum, and methods for the use of the devices are disclosed. The implantable devices are convertible between a flexible state and a rigid state using a shape locking section. The implantable devices further include a main body and a distal bone interface. In a flexible state, the devices may be inserted along, and conform to a curved pathway, and in the rigid state, the devices may support the mechanical loads required to fixate a fracture.

Cortical bone pin

A pin made of cortical bone may be inserted into adjoining bones of a toe to align and secure the bones. The pin may have barbs to prevent migration of the pin. The pin may include a shoulder to further prevent migration of the pin from the bones, to increase the strength of the pin, and to increase the surface area between the bone pin and the host bone. The pin may further include flattened portions on its circumference to aide in rotating the pin during insertion. The pin may be treated to reduce brittleness.
