SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS AND METHODS
Laminoplasty methods for the treatment of spinal stenosis are disclosed, as well as surgical instruments and a surgical implant related to these methods. One of the surgical instruments is a scalpel for minimally invasive surgical procedure, including a longitudinal shaft, a grip and a dissector. Another instrument is an osteotome including two jaws being pivotable around a first axis and facing each other. The surgical implant is useful for stabilizing a lamina of a vertebra of a patient and comprises a mounting flange including a hole for accommodating a bone screw for attachment to an articular process of the vertebra, and three clamping flanges.
Laminoplasty implant, method and instrumentation
In one embodiment, the present invention is a laminal implant including: a first body including a first flange adapted to engage a first lamina end, a tab and a receiving channel; and a second body including a second flange adapted to engage a second lamina end, and a plurality of teeth adapted to engage the tab, at least a portion of the second body adapted to be positioned within the receiving channel, the first and second bodies adapted to slideably engage one another.
FORCEPS FOR HANDLING/HOLDING A MOBILE WEDGE PLATE
The present invention includes devices, systems and methods for the storage, retrieval and placement of plates having wedges. A wedge plate tray includes an upper portion and at least one recessed portion, the recessed portion including a cavity sized to house the wedge and an additional cavity sized to accommodate placement and movement of an arm of an insertion instrument. The insertion instrument includes two arms connected at a hinge, a tip of each arm including a mating connector sized to engage a complementary mating connector on the wedge. In one embodiment of the method, the insertion instrument can be used to place the wedge plate in an osteotomy and where the wedge is a mobile wedge, a plate component can be adjusted to a desired position for securement while using the insertion instrument to hold the wedge in place in the osteotomy.
Orthopedic kit
A kit for orthopedics, preferably for osteosynthesis, has a mechanical fixing system that includes a plate for straddling between two bone fragments and fixing screws for fixing the plate to the two bone fragments. The plate has a thickness of about 0.5-4 mm and conical through holes, the fixing screws each having a head, a self-tapping stem, and a conical collar interposed between the head and the self-tapping stem to define a conical coupling within a corresponding conical through hole of the plate. The heads of the fixing screws have a upper surfaces with a recessed and shaped mark for coupling with the tip of a screwing tool and external side walls with a thread for engaging a gripping tool. When the conical collar is inserted into a corresponding conical through hole of the plate, the head protrudes outwardly from the plate.
BONE PLATE WITH MOVABLE JOINT
System, including methods and devices, for fixing bone. The system may include a bone plate having two or more plate members connected to one another with one or more movable joints. Each joint may permit the orientation of the plate members to be adjusted relative to one another in a single plane or two or more nonparallel planes. The joint may have a movable configuration and a fixed configuration. Methods of creating the bone plate are also provided.
WRIST STABILIZATION SYSTEMS
Devices, systems, and methods for bone stabilization, especially ulna head stabilization. The stabilization system may include a bone plate having an elongated portion extending along a longitudinal axis between a proximal end and a distal end. The bone plate defines a plurality of through holes extending through the elongated portion. A plurality of fasteners are configured to extend through one or more of the plurality of through holes in the bone plate and configured to secure the bone plate to the bone. The proximal end of the elongate portion has an arcuate configuration.
Bone implant with means for multi directional force and means of insertion
An assembly used in osteosynthesis comprising a delivery instrument in combination with an implant wherein the delivery instrument releasably holds the implant in a first configuration prior to attachment of the implant to bone. The delivery instrument allows the implant to be affixed to bone before the implant is released from the instrument. And the instrument may comprise guide means for drills, depth gauges, screws, pins, pegs, blades and or drivers which are used or implanted when the implant is releasably attached to the instrument. After the implant is affixed to bone and released from the delivery instrument, the implant assumes at least a second configuration which provides compression and or distraction and or control of spatial orientation.
Compression force magnifier
A compression force magnifier including a vertical axis through a body and a proximal surface of the body sloped at a predetermined angle relative to the vertical axis. A flat distal surface of the body is disposed opposite the proximal surface. A bore is disposed through the body from the proximal surface through the distal surface. The body is connected to an arm having a connection opening configured to allow connection of the body to a bone plate. The connection opening has a connection axis spaced from the vertical axis.
Technique For Providing User Guidance In Surgical Navigation
A technique of providing user guidance for surgical navigation is provided. A method implementation of the technique includes obtaining a predetermined spatial relationship between an optical tracking pattern and a through-hole extending through an implant, obtaining image data of the optical tracking pattern acquired by an imaging unit attached to a surgical instrument, obtaining a spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the imaging unit at a point in time when the image data have been acquired, determining a spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the through-hole, obtaining a plurality of predefined spatial relationships between the surgical instrument and the through-hole, and triggering simultaneous display of an indication of the plurality of predefined spatial relationships and an indication of the spatial relationship between the surgical instrument and the through-hole.
SURGICAL FIXATION SYSTEM AND RELATED METHODS
A surgical fixation system including a base plate, a plurality of anchors and a locking element. The base plate has at least a pair of fixation apertures configured to receive at least a portion of the anchors therethrough. The fixation apertures are located within the base plate such that upon proper placement of the base plate within a surgical target site, one of the fixation apertures is positioned over a first bone segment (e.g., a first vertebral body), and the other fixation aperture is positioned over a second bone segment (e.g., a second vertebral body).
