Method and apparatus for inserting a bone plate
Devices, systems, and methods for locking a drill guide into a polyaxial hole while maintaining the form and function of the polyaxial hole are provided herein. In some embodiments, the drill guide includes a hollow outer body extending from a proximal end to a distal end and having a slot disposed proximate the proximate end, wherein the distal end is configured as a reverse collet having a plurality of prongs; an inner body having a central channel extending therethrough; and a lever coupled to the inner body through the slot, wherein the slot is shaped such that rotation of the lever results in motion along a central axis of the drill guide, and wherein a distal end of the inner body is configured to prevent radially inward deflection of the plurality of prongs when the inner body is in a lowermost position.
Implantable vertebral frame systems and related methods for spinal repair
A system for performing surgical repair of the spine includes a distractor and a permanently implanted bone plate system. A surgical repair methodology is also disclosed that employs an implanted bone plate system with a substantially void internal volume which is attached to adjacent vertebrae subsequent to the distraction and adjustment of curvature of the vertebrae and prior to the excision of disc and/or end plate tissue through the bone plate. The device further facilitates the subsequent delivery of an interbody repair device for the purpose of either fusion or dynamic stabilization, such as by disc arthroplasty. The plate may be permanently implanted, such as when a fusion between the attached vertebral bodies is desired, but it need not be permanently implanted.
BONE FIXATION DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS
A combined inserter for insertion of an intramedullary nail and a bone plate together. The combined inserter includes a body that includes a longitudinal axis, a distal end, and a proximal end. The combined inserter includes an intramedullary nail coupler coupled to the body and configured to couple to an intramedullary nail; and a bone plate coupler coupled to the body and configured to couple to a bone plate.
BONE FIXATION DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS
An intramedullary nail includes a shaft between a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end includes a first bend that extends from an anterior side of the intramedullary nail toward a posterior side and a second bend that extends from the posterior side toward the anterior side of the intramedullary nail. The two bends transfer an insertion force on a distal end of the intramedullary nail to, and along a longitudinal axis of the shaft of the intramedullary nail.
BONE FIXATION DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS
A bone plate includes body having a bone-facing surface that faces a first side of the long bone when the bone plate is in use. The long bone includes the first side, a second side, a third side, and a fourth side. The bone plate also includes a low-profile fixation assembly that can secure one end to the long bone. The low-profile fixation assembly fixates the one end to the long bone by approaching the one end from one of the second side, the third side, and the fourth side of the long bone.
ARTICULATING TOOL FOR ENDOSCOPIC PLACEMENT OF FASTENERS
Various articulating tools for endoscopic placement of fasteners are disclosed. The tool can comprise a multi-angle articulating screwdriver. The tool can have an elongate shaft with an articulating driver head at a distal end. The tool can rotate the articulating driver head to drive fasteners, such as screws, to a surgical site. The articulating driver head can articulate with respect to a longitudinal axis of the elongate shaft to enable the fastener to be driven at various angle. The tool can be coupled to a powered handpiece power and can transmit torque from the handpiece to the driver head.
ORTHOGNATHIC IMPLANT AND METHODS OF USE
An implant for use in orthognathic surgery of a mandible may include a longitudinal plate member and a plurality of pre-configured guides coupled to the plate member. The longitudinal plate member is pre-bent to correspond to the post-operative shape of the mandible; and the guides are pre-configured to align the plate member with the mandible when the implant is positioned against the mandible after the mandible has been separated.
BONE PLATING KIT FOR FOOT AND ANKLE APPLICATIONS
A bone plate kit may be provided for a foot or ankle orthopedic procedure, such as a lapidus procedure. In some examples, the bone plate kit includes a sterile container that holds multiple unicortical bone plate fasteners and one or more bone plates. For example, the kit may contain two bone plates configured to be used together during a tarsal-metatarsal fusion procedure. Each of the two bone plates may be configured to span different regions of a tarsal-metatarsal joint. The unicortical bone plate fasteners can be used to secure the two bone plates to the first metatarsal and medial cuneiform of a patient undergoing a procedure. In some configurations, one of the bone plates is a helical bone plate while the other bone plate may or may not be a helical bone plate.
ORTHOPAEDIC FIXATION DEVICE, SYSTEM AND METHOD
An implantable fixation device for rejoining opposed portions of a separated bone. The device including two corresponding plates that are configured to be aligned and coupled to a bone, such as a sternum, pre-resection of the bone or prior to cutting/separating the bone. The placement of the corresponding plates provides a gap between the edges of the plates that face one another allowing for and guiding a cutting tool for separating the bone. After the bone has been cut and the desired surgical procedure performed, the plates also assist in realigning and fixation of the bone portions. At least one plate includes a ratchet mechanism that is configured to tighten a locking element and draw the two plates together and into alignment with one another.
SURGICAL METHOD FOR OPENING WEDGE OSTEOTOMY AND EQUIPMENT FOR IMPLEMENTING SAME, AND SURGICAL GUIDE DEVICE AND METHOD FOR OBTAINING SAME
A surgical guide device can be attached to a patient's bone for assisting an open wedge osteotomy. This device includes two parts which are joined together by way of removable securing unit, namely: a proximal part, including a lower border defining at least one portion of the upper edge of a guide window, and a distal part having an upper edge defining at least one portion of the lower edge of the guide window. The proximal and distal parts are each provided with a plurality of through holes adapted for receiving members temporarily implantable in the bone and/or adapted to guide a drilling of holes in the bone. The arrangement of the through holes of the surgical guide device advantageously takes into account the planned open wedge osteotomy and anticipates the final position of the screw locations of the reported osteosynthesis plate for freezing the two bone fragments.
