Bone cement mixer

A bone cement mixing and dispensing system and method for mixing and delivering bone cement therefrom. The system has a mixing container for holding a bone cement mixture, the mixing container extending along an axial length and having opposed first and second ends, the first end comprising a downstream opening for dispensing the bone cement downstream from the mixing container; a mixing element movably disposed within the mixing container; and a plunger comprising a piston movably disposed within the mixing container. In this system. with a first coupling, the mixing element moves by assistance of a motor along the axial length of the mixing container without translation of the plunger to mix the bone cement. In this system. with a second coupling, the mixing element and plunger are driven together along the axial length of the mixing container.

Bone Graft Delivery Loading Assembly

A bone graft loading system includes a loading funnel, syringe, cannula, plunger, and loading tool. The loading funnel includes an interior passageway to receive the cannula and a syringe docking portion. The syringe may be coupled to the syringe docking portion so that it extends along a longitudinal axis that is transverse to the longitudinal axes of the cannula and the loading funnel. A user may advance bone graft from the syringe to a holding area of the loading funnel. The user may then move the loading tool through the holding area and into the interior space of the cannula to load the cannula with bone graft. This process may be repeated until the cannula is fully loaded with bone graft. The cannula and the plunger inside the cannula may then be removed from the loading funnel and coupled to an injector assembly for use in surgery.

BONE VOID FILLER PREPARATION SYSTEM

A bone void filler preparation system that includes a processing vessel, a processing cover, a bone void filler preparation container and tubing. The processing vessel has a recess formed therein. The processing vessel is adapted to receive bone marrow aspirate. The processing cover includes an outer wall, a central wall member and a connection port. The outer wall has an upper edge and a lower edge. The central wall member extends inwardly from the outer wall intermediate the upper and lower edges of the processing cover. The central wall member has an aperture formed therein. The central wall member has a downwardly directed portion that defines an air-retaining region. The air-retaining region is closer to the outer wall upper edge than the aperture. The connection port is operably connected to the aperture. The processing cover is movable in the processing cover recess. The bone void filler preparation container has an inlet portion and an outlet port. The bone void filler preparation container is adapted to receive a bone void filler matrix therein. The tubing fluidly connects the processing cover connection port and the bone void filler preparation container inlet port.

MIXING AND DELIVERY DEVICE FOR BONE CEMENT AND ASSOCIATED METHODS

Implementations described herein include a hone cement mixing and delivery device including a cylindrical container defines a chamber and has an injection passage disposed at the distal end thereof. A plug can be removably disposable in the injection passage. The mixing screw is rotatably disposable in the chamber and has a screw thread extending along an outer surface of the mixing screw as well as a return passage extending through the mixing screw from the proximal end to the distal end thereof. In a mixing mode of the device, a mixing rod engages and rotates the mixing screw about the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical container causing material disposed in the chamber to be moved distally and return to the proximal end of the chamber through the return passage of the mixing screw. In an injection mode of the device, the plug can be removed from the injection passage and an injection rod occludes the return passage of the mixing screw. The injection rod engages and rotates the mixing screw about the longitudinal axis moving material disposed in the chamber through the injection passage.

A mixing and delivery system includes a compressible tube and a mixing apparatus. The compressible tube includes a reservoir configured for mixing and holding a surgical substance, an inlet portion for accommodating introduction of an element of the surgical substance into the compressible tube, and an exit port for enabling the delivery of the surgical substance to a target portion of an anatomy. The mixing apparatus is configured to be received through the inlet portion of the compressible tube for mixing elements of the surgical substance to form the surgical substance.

Valve for prefilled bone cement mixing system

According to one example, a valve for an apparatus configured to mix bone cement is disclosed. The valve can include a base defining a first portion of a passage. The passage can be configured to allow a component of the bone cement through the valve. The valve can include a projection extending from the base to a base opposing end and forming a second portion of the passage that communicates with the first portion. The projection can have a frustoconically shaped surface that comprises one of an outer surface or an inner surface that forms a part of the second portion of the passage.

Mixing syringe and method of use

A syringe mixing device has a cylindrical syringe housing, an end cap, a nozzle cap, a removable stir rod mixer assembly, a large mouth funnel, and optional locking clip. The cylindrical syringe housing has an internal chamber for holding material, a distal end and a proximal end. Adjacent the proximal end is a pair of finger grips. The end cap has a proximal end for attaching to the distal end of the syringe housing. The end cap has a nozzle configured to pass material ejected from the syringe housing. The nozzle cap is for sealing the nozzle. The large mouth funnel is configured to fasten at a throat end to the distal end of the cylindrical syringe housing. The funnel has a slope shaped chamber configured to receive and pass material for mixing into the internal chamber of the syringe housing. The syringe mixing device further has a removable plunger.

Bone Cement Mixing System and Apparatus

An apparatus for mixing bone cement for use in orthopedic surgeries includes a mixing region and an agitator for mix the cement ingredients. A temperature sensing means of apparatus determines when that the cement mix can no longer be used. The apparatus can be operated or acted on by a power tool for the mixing of the bone cement. The power tool and/or mixing apparatus may include a mechanical torque limiter that inhibits the agitator as a result of mixing torque exceeding a threshold value. A timer of the apparatus may be started by a sensor of the apparatus or by the user in response to a mechanical torque value. When the timer is complete, a cue by the apparatus signals to the user that the mixed cement is ready and able to be applied.

Systems and Methods for Bone Stabilization and Fixation

Systems for the minimally invasive repair, stabilization and/or fixation of a fractured bone, such as a rib, are disclosed. The systems include one or more rods/support members that are designed to extend along a dimension of a bone being repaired and secure the fractured bone. The support members can be photodynamic and are formed using an expandable member that is filled with a light-sensitive liquid that is cured to form the rigid support member. Two or more clamps are used to secure the support member(s) to the rib or other bone. Minimally invasive surgical methods for securing the systems to a fractured bone are also disclosed.

System, device and method for delivery of biomaterials for fracture fixation

The invention relates to a delivery system, device and method for delivering biomaterials for fracture fixation (including augmented fixation), in particular, for delivery of bone cements. The mixing system ensures the biomaterial only commences setting upon extrusion from the mixer, cannula or during injection through an appropriate internal fracture fixation device, allowing for rapid closing by the surgeon. The system also permits the surgeon to cease injecting the cement for an extended period of time before continuing the injection in another area using the same cartridge, through the simple removal of one mixer and attaching another in its place. The invention also provides a method of delivery of biomaterials to a desired implantation site.
