METHODS AND SYSTEMS OF POSITIONING AN IMPLANT
The present disclosure provides a method of positioning an implant in a patient. The method includes inserting a deflated biodegradable balloon into a joint of the patient, wherein the biodegradable balloon is wedged between at least one of bone and soft tissue in the joint of the patient. The biodegradable balloon is inflated by injecting a warmed sterile liquid from a syringe through an inlet valve and the inflated biodegradable balloon is at least one of sized and shaped to fit within the surgical field. The expanded biodegradable balloon is a joint spacer, changing the spatial relationship between the bones and soft tissue in the joint of the patient.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DRIVING AN ULTRASONIC DEVICE
A system for driving an ultrasonic device for bone cement removal and/or osteotomy operations comprises a control unit, a memory unit, and connection means for connecting together the control unit and a handset of the ultrasonic device. The control unit is configured to send a signal to the handset, receive from the handset a response to the signal sent, and check an operating condition of the ultrasonic device based on this response. Related device, method and computer program are also disclosed.
TOOL SYSTEM FOR REMOVING PROSTHETIC CEMENT FROM A BONE OF A PATIENT UNDERGOING A JOINT PROSTHESIS REPLACEMENT OPERATION
A method for providing a tool system for removing prosthetic cement from a bone of a patient undergoing a joint prosthesis replacement operation includes scanning the patient in the area of the joint prosthesis to obtain a profile of a line of intersection of a prosthetic cement/bone interface at its intersection with a longitudinally pre-selected plane; providing a guide member shaped as a stem of the prosthesis in a prosthetic cavity located in said prosthetic cement; and providing a cutting tool for forming a running cut through the prosthetic cement along the line of intersection. A stem of the cutting tool includes two protrusions along the length thereof. A guide member includes two grooves which each engage one of said protrusions. Grooves are profiled so the outer end of the stem is forced to follow a path corresponding to the profile of the line of intersection of the cement/bone interface.
INTRAOSSEOUS DEVICE HAVING RETRACTABLE MOTOR/STYLET ASSEMBLY AND AUTOMATIC STYLET POINT COVER UPON RETRACTION OPERATION
A portable and passive safety intraosseous device to allow for direct introduction of medications, etc., within the intermedullary space of a subject patient's bone or, if needed, the removal of certain substances from such a subject patient's bone. Such a device permits direct drilling and placement of a cannula within the subject bone with access external to the subject patient's skin, permitting, as well, connection of a tube for such introduction/removal purposes. The ability to provide a passive safety unit allows for facilitated utilization in, for instance, emergency situations with the entire device provided for utilization thereof. The device includes a drilling component with a permanently attached stylet and a removable cannula, a power supply for a single drilling operation, a mechanism to draw the stylet back into the drill component after use and disengagement from the cannula, and an automatic closure that activates with the separation of the cannula.
CANNULA WITH RECESSED HUB STRUCTURE
A portable and passive safety intraosseous device to allow for direct introduction of medications, etc., within the intermedullary space of a subject patient's bone or, if needed, the removal of certain substances from such a subject patient's bone. Such a device permits direct drilling and placement of a cannula within the subject bone with access external to the subject patient's skin, permitting, as well, connection of a tube for such introduction/removal purposes. A bone cement extractor for extracting cement from a bone cavity comprising a connection body and a segmented assembly. The connection body has a quick connect for connecting to a working tool. The segmented assembly is attachable to a distal end of the connection body and includes an inner segment having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end connectable to the distal end of the connection body, and an outer segment having a proximal end and a distal end, the outer segment slidably connectable to the inner segment.
Torsional orthopaedic revision system
A torsional-mode ultrasonic vibration generator is manufactured with longitudinal slots extending along its horn which damp unwanted vibrational modes and allow it to be made significantly smaller than previous apparatus. The torsional-mode ultrasonic generator is operable with a suite of surgical tools, to perform portions of an orthopaedic arthroplasty revision procedure. Three of the tools are for removing bone cement from within a bone cavity on a prosthesis cemented into the bone cavity. Three other tools are for separating an uncemented prosthesis from ingrown bone by cutting the bone between the prosthesis and walls of the bone cavity. The seventh tool is provided with sensors to determine a separation between a bone-cutting tool head and a metal prosthesis, feedback from the sensors being used to control servo motors of an articulated mounting for the seventh tool, to maintain the separation at a desirable value.
