INTERLAMINAR LUMBAR INTERBODY FUSION IMPLANTS, INTRADISCAL IMPLANTS, INSTRUMENTS, AND METHODS
Orthopedic implants, systems, instruments, and methods. A bi-portal lumbar interbody fusion system may include an expandable interbody implant and minimally invasive pedicle-based intradiscal fixation implants. The interbody and intradiscal implants may be installed with intelligent instrumentation capable of repeatably providing precision placement of the implants. The bi-portal system may be robotically-enabled to guide the instruments and implants along desired access trajectories to the surgical area.
Mating inserter and cannula for fusing a sacroiliac joint
An instrument set for installing a fusion implant into the sacroiliac joint. The apparatus comprises a working channel having an alignment means, an implant inserter having an inserter keying means for mating with the alignment means when the implant inserter is inserted into the working channel. The implant inserter has an insertion end with a pair of tines for releasably receiving a joint fusion implant.
DECORTICATING DEVICE FOR FUSING A SACROILIAC JOINT
A decorticating device for preparing a sacroiliac joint (“SI Joint”) to receive a graft implant. The decorticating device comprises an abrading head having abrading surfaces on a first pair of opposing sides, the abrading surfaces configured for decorticating the cortical bone of the SI Joint. The abrading head further comprises a second pair of opposing sides, each side of the second pair of opposing sides comprising a curved distal portion having a curved cutting edge.
METHOD OF FORMING AND DECORTICATING A VOID IN A SACROILIAC JOINT
A method for forming and abrading an implant void in a sacroiliac joint (“SI Joint”) without the use of a rotary cutting instrument. The method incorporates a multimodal abrading device having abrading surfaces on opposing sides and an open tip comprising a cutting edge. The method includes the step of using the abrading head to cut bone tissue from the SI Joint at an insertion point while simultaneously using the abrading surfaces to decorticate the cortical bone at the insertion point.
ANTERIOR ANKLE APPROACH SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method of ankle replacement includes forming an anterior cut in a bone and forming a stem hole in a distal end of the bone. The stem hole is formed using a plurality of broaches positioned against the distal end of the bone through the anterior cut. A first portion and a second portion of a stem implant are inserted into the stem hole through the anterior cut in the bone. The first portion is coupled to the second portion using a coupling device inserted through the anterior cut in the bone. The stem implant is impacted into the stem hole using an offset impactor.
Insertion apparatus for an intramedullary nail
A tool for manipulating the position of an implantable medical device. In some embodiments the tool includes a readily releasable grasping feature that securely couples the implant to the tool while the implant is being manipulated. Preferably, the user can simply release the implant from the tool. The tool in other embodiments includes an internal pathway for accommodating non-linear implants, such as curved rods, wires, or nails. In yet other embodiments the tool has multiple handles, each handle being adapted and configured to permit manipulation of the implant in a single predetermined orientation, but with alternative handles for grasping in different hand orientations. Still further embodiments pertain to a kit having a tool and a plurality of collets, each collet being adapted and configured to grasp a different size of implant, but each collet having identical tool coupling features such that any collet in the kit can be used with the single tool. Still further, yet other embodiments pertain to tools having quick release mechanisms for the acceptance or removal of a collet, and some include external features for preventing inadvertent release of the collet when coupled to an implant.
ORTHOPEDIC PIN FOR OPTICALLY ANALYZING A BONE REGION
An orthopedic pin (100) for optically analyzing a bone region (110) includes an elongate shaft (101) and at least one optical fiber (105) The elongate shaft has a circular outer cross section with a first diameter (D1), a distal end (102) for insertion into bone, a proximal end (103), and an optical connector portion (104) disposed towards the proximal end (103). The at least one optical fiber (105) extends within the elongate shaft (101) between the optical connector portion (104), and the distal end (102) for transmitting optical radiation between the optical connector portion (104) and the bone region (110) when the distal end (102) is inserted into the bone region (110). The optical connector portion (104) comprises a reduced-diameter portion (106). The reduced-diameter portion (106) extends along at least a portion of the elongate shaft (101), and has an outer cross section comprising a width (Drd) perpendicularly with respect to the elongate shaft (101). The width (Drd) is less than the first diameter (D1).
Expandable spinal implant and tool system
A self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatus is disclosed which includes at least first and second sliding boxes. A first screw member having a tapered end and a threaded body is disposed within the first sliding box, and a second screw member having a tapered end and a threaded body disposed within the second sliding box. An adjuster adjusts the height of the sliding boxes. The screw members are screwed into vertebral bodies in order to fuse the vertebral bodies together. A plurality of the self-drilling bone fusion screw apparatuses may be attached together and/or integrated via a plate or cage. Also disclosed is a cervical facet staple that includes a curved staple base and at least two prongs attached to the bottom surface of the curved staple base.
Pneumatic striking tool for treatment of bones in hip operations and methods for applying the striking tool
The present invention relates to a pneumatic impact tool for hip surgery, comprising a housing with a cylinder/piston assembly with a pneumatically driven piston and a tool holder. The impact tool has two or more handles which are arranged at regular intervals around the cylinder/piston assembly.
