ELECTROSURGICAL DEVICE FOR CUTTING TISSUE
A tool assembly for use with an electrosurgical device for cutting tissue includes a base portion, an electrical insulator extending distally from the base portion, a return lead adapted to be electrically coupled to a return terminal, and an active lead adapted to be electrically coupled to an active terminal. The return lead is movably supported on the electrical insulator. The active lead is fixed to the electrical insulator. The return lead is rotatable about a pivot and translatable along a longitudinal axis relative to the electrical insulator and the active lead. Upon activation, electrosurgical energy is transmitted from the active lead through tissue to the return lead to cut tissue in contact with the active lead.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS AND SYSTEMS CONFIGURED TO DETECT, ANALYZE, AND/OR DISTINGUISH SMOKE AND STEAM DURING A SURGICAL PROCEDURE
An electrosurgical system includes an end effector assembly and a sensor. The end effector assembly includes first and second jaw members each defining an electrically-conductive tissue-contacting surface. At least one of the first or second jaw members is movable relative to the other between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position for grasping tissue between the tissue-contacting surfaces thereof. The electrically-conductive tissue-contacting surfaces of the first and second jaw members are adapted to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy for conducting energy through tissue grasped therebetween to treat tissue. The sensor is configured to sense at least one property of smoke produced as a result of the conduction of energy through tissue grasped between the electrically-conductive tissue-contacting surfaces.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS AND SYSTEMS CONFIGURED TO DETECT, ANALYZE, AND/OR DISTINGUISH SMOKE AND STEAM DURING A SURGICAL PROCEDURE
A surgical system includes a surgical instrument configured for insertion into a surgical site, a sensor configured to sense at least one property of smoke at the surgical site, and a surgical generator including a controller and an energy output. The energy output is configured to supply energy to the surgical instrument for application to tissue at the surgical site to treat the tissue. The controller is configured to receive the at least one property, determine at least one parameter of smoke at the surgical site based upon the at least one property, and control the energy output based upon the at least one parameter and/or provide an output based upon the at least one parameter.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS AND SYSTEMS CONFIGURED TO DETECT, ANALYZE, AND/OR DISTINGUISH SMOKE AND STEAM DURING A SURGICAL PROCEDURE
A method of surgery includes inserting a surgical instrument into a surgical site, supplying energy from a surgical generator to tissue at the surgical site via the surgical instrument to treat the tissue, sensing at least one property of smoke at the surgical site, and determining at least one parameter of smoke at the surgical site based upon the at least one property. The method further includes controlling the supply of energy from the surgical generator based upon the at least one parameter and/or providing an output based upon the at least one parameter.
Multi-function surgical instruments
A surgical instrument includes a housing, an energizable member, a powered deployment assembly, and a cable assembly. The energizable member is configured to supply electrosurgical energy to tissue, and is movable between a storage position and a deployed position. The powered deployment assembly is configured to selectively move the energizable member between the storage position and the deployed position. The cable assembly having a cable coupled to the housing at a first end and having a plug coupled to the cable at a second, opposite end. The cable housing one or more first wires for selectively providing electrosurgical energy to the energizable member and one or more second wires for selectively providing power to the powered deployment assembly. The plug is configured to house a battery therein for powering the powered deployment assembly via the one or more second wires.
Multi-function surgical instruments and assemblies therefor
An inner guide assembly and surgical instrument including the same wherein the inner guide assembly includes a proximal tube guide defining first and second proximal channels extending longitudinally therealong, a distal tube guide defining first and second distal channels extending longitudinally therealong and disposed in alignment with the first and second proximal channels, respectively, and a wire clip disposed between the proximal and distal tube guides and defining a central channel having a first portion and a second portion. The first proximal channel, the first distal channel, and the first portion of the central channel are configured to cooperate to receive a first elongated component of a surgical instrument longitudinally therethrough. The second proximal channel, the second distal channel, and the second portion of the central channel are configured to cooperate to receive first and second lead wires of the surgical instrument longitudinally therethrough.
MARCHAND ADVANCED SINGLE PORT HYSTERECTOMY - A LAPAROSCOPIC SURGICAL TECHNIQUE
This disclosure is relative to the field of laparoscopic surgery and gynecologic surgery. Specifically disclosed is a surgical technique for laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingectomy-oophorectomy which encompasses dissection and removal of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. The technique utilizes a single-entry port located at the umbilicus in conjunction with access through the vaginal opening to access and manipulate the organs within the abdominal cavity.
VACUUM POWERED SALINE INJECTION SYSTEM
A method and apparatus for injecting saline into an open cavity of a patient's body, and, alternatively, vacuuming fluids from said cavity during laparoscopic surgery that provides constant feed and amplified pressure to provide a steady fluid output, in a disposable, single use handheld surgical device.
SYSTEM AND METHOD TO PROTECT AGAINST INSULATION BREACH IN AN ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT.
An apparatus is provided to detect electrical contact between anatomical tissue and a shield conductor: a transformer; an alternating current (AC) reference frequency signal generator to inject a reference frequency signal to a primary winding of the transformer; a reactive impedance coupled in parallel with a secondary winding of the transformer between a first node and a second node; and a phase match detector circuit to detect a phase match between the reference frequency signal and a reflected reference frequency signal that is reflected from the secondary winding to the primary winding.
