System and methods for determining proximity relative to an anatomical structure
A system includes a surgical instrument configured to perform a laparoscopic surgical operation, a location sensor configured to identify a spatial relationship between an anatomical structure and the surgical instrument, and a processor configured to receive a graphical representation of a patient, determine proximity of the distal end portion of the surgical instrument with the anatomical structure of the patient based on the spatial relationship, and generate a warning based on the determination of proximity.
ROBOTIC SURGICAL ASSEMBLIES AND ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENTS THEREOF
An actuation mechanism for actuating an electrosurgical end effector includes a housing and a shaft assembly extending distally from the housing. The shaft assembly includes an elongate collar, a shaft extending through the elongate collar, and a longitudinal bar axially movable relative to the shaft. The elongate collar has an internal threadform extending along a length thereof. The longitudinal bar includes a proximal end having an extension engaged to the internal threadform of the elongate collar and a distal end configured to be coupled to a knife blade of an electrosurgical end effector. Rotation of the elongate collar axially moves the longitudinal bar relative to the elongate collar to move the knife blade.
Treatment instrument
A treatment instrument includes a rotating body and a housing. The rotating body includes a connecting portion including: a supported portion having a cylindrical outer peripheral surface, and an engaged portion that is adjacent to the supported surface. The housing includes a supporting portion that is configured to support the supported portion of the rotating body, the supporting portion being rotatable around a predetermined rotation axis; and an engaging portion that is configured to generate a frictional force larger than a frictional force between the supporting portion and the supported portion by coming into contact with the engaged portion.
Ultrasonic sealing algorithm with temperature control
A method of ultrasonic sealing includes activating an ultrasonic blade temperature sensing, measuring a first resonant frequency of an ultrasonic electromechanical system that includes a transducer coupled to the blade via a waveguide, making a first comparison between the measured first resonant frequency and a first predetermined resonant frequency, and adjusting a power level applied to the transducer based on the first comparison. The first predetermined frequency may correspond to an optimal tissue coagulation temperature. The method may further include measuring a second resonant frequency of the system, making a second comparison between the measured second frequency and a second predetermined frequency, and adjusting the power level based on the second comparison. The second predetermined frequency may correspond a melting point temperature of a clamp arm pad. An ultrasonic instrument and a generator may implement the method.
CUTTING MECHANISMS FOR SURGICAL END EFFECTOR ASSEMBLIES, INSTRUMENTS, AND SYSTEMS
A surgical system includes an attaching device having an end effector disposed at the distal end thereof. The end effector includes a support member, a wrist pivot pivotably coupling the end effector to the attaching device, and first and second jaw members pivotably coupled to one another and the support member. A first cable is operably coupled to the wrist pivot and configured to articulate the end effector relative to the attaching device. Second and third cables are operably coupled to the jaw members and configured to pivot the jaw members relative to the support member. A first actuation of the second and third cables collectively pivots the first and second jaw members relative to the support member. A second actuation of the second and third cables pivots the first and second jaw members relative to one another and the support member between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position.
Surgical instrument with jaw alignment features
A surgical instrument that includes first and second jaws that are movably coupled together to move between an open and a closed position. The first jaw includes a first proximal end, a first distal tip, and a first jaw midpoint between the first proximal end and the first distal tip. The second jaw includes a second proximal end and a second distal tip. The first jaw includes a first alignment feature that is distal to the first jaw midpoint and is configured to engage a corresponding portion of the second jaw when the first and second jaws are moved to the closed position to align the first distal tip with the second distal tip.
Contactless circuitry for corded surgical devices
A surgical device (10) includes a handle (122) and a rotatable assembly (130) coupled and rotatable with respect to the handle (122). The surgical device (10) further includes a switch (126) coupled to the handle (122) and having a plurality of positions. A first inductor (1122) is coupled to the switch (126) and a second inductor (1102) is coupled to the rotatable assembly (130). A current signal propagating through the first inductor (1122) and/or a current signal propagating through the second inductor (1102) changes based on a position of the switch (126).
Cell population analysis
A method of analysis using mass spectrometry and/or ion mobility spectrometry is disclosed comprising: (a) using a first device to generate smoke, aerosol or vapour from a target in vitro or ex vivo cell population; (b) mass analysing and/or ion mobility analysing said smoke, aerosol or vapour, or ions derived therefrom, in order to obtain spectrometric data; and (c) analysing said spectrometric data in order to identify and/or characterise said target cell population or one or more cells and/or compounds present in said target cell population.
SURGICAL ROBOTIC SYSTEM COMPRISING SPHERICAL WRIST
A surgical robotic system is provided comprising a wrist comprising a surgical instrument and an elongated shaft configured to transmit actuation forces from a drive assembly to the spherical wrist to actuate rotation of the spherical wrist. The surgical instrument is a hinged surgical instrument comprising jaws, wherein the jaws are biased in a normally open position by a resilient biasing element, wherein the surgical instrument is actuatable by the drive assembly towards a closed position by a preloaded string which runs from the drive assembly through the elongated shaft to the surgical instrument and which preloads the surgical instrument.
Use of biomarkers and therapeutic agents with surgical devices
Biomarkers are collected and used to determine biological propensities of a patient, to determine the efficacy of medical devices, to select and administer therapeutic agents, to select medical devices, to make adjustments to medical devices, and/or to adjust surgical techniques. An apparatus includes a port to draw a biological fluid (e.g., a mist) from a surgical site. The apparatus includes a sensor having a cantilevered beam. The beam includes substances selected to attract certain biomarkers as the fluid is communicated across the beam. The same apparatus or another apparatus is used to administer a therapeutic agent based at least in part on collected biomarker data. The therapeutic agent delivery apparatus may include a device that is also used to create a wound at a surgical site. For instance, a harmonic surgical instrument may be used to both collect biomarkers and administer a therapeutic agent (e.g., gene therapy using sonoporation).
