The unclamp lockout mechanism including a pawl rotatably mounted to the shaft and positioned proximal to a closure yoke operatively coupled to the shaft, the pawl being pivotable between a stowed position, where the pawl is received within an aperture of the shaft, and a deployed position, where the pawl protrudes out of the aperture, and a biasing device that biases the pawl toward the stowed position. When the pawl is in the stowed position, the closure yoke is movable to a proximal position over at least a portion of the pawl to open the opposing jaws. When the pawl is in the deployed position, the closure yoke is prevented from moving to the proximal position.

Septotomy catheter for aortic dissection

Medical methods and devices for treating aortic dissections. A catheter-based cutting device permits cutting a septum of acute or chronic aortic dissections, in a retrograde manner. The catheter includes a base section having a central lumen therethrough and two flexible arms extending from a distal end thereof. The flexible arms can each have a guide wire channel therethrough. With distal ends of the two flexible arms separated, the two arms form a Y-shape with the base section. In one embodiment, with distal ends of the two flexible arms together, the two arms have a longitudinal profile, about a periphery thereof, identical to a longitudinal profile of the base section. A cutting component resides between the two arms. The cutting component can face distally outward between the two arms with the distal ends of the two flexible arms separated.

POWER CONTROL FOR AN ELECTROSURGICAL VESSEL SEALER
20230017125 · 2023-01-19 · ·

A power delivery approach for delivering power to an electrosurgical vessel sealer when the jaws of the sealer surround tissue to be desiccated. Power delivery commences at a starting point that is at least 40 Joules and then decreases over a first predetermined period of time to a predetermined minimum power level to provide approximately 15 Joules in total. When the predetermined minimum power level is reached, power is then continuously increased over a second predetermined period of time to fully desiccate the tissue. Power delivery is terminated prior to over-desiccation of the tissue.

Methods for controlling temperature in ultrasonic device

A generator, ultrasonic device, and method for controlling a temperature of an ultrasonic blade are disclosed. A control circuit coupled to a memory determines an actual resonant frequency of an ultrasonic electromechanical system comprising an ultrasonic transducer coupled to an ultrasonic blade by an ultrasonic waveguide. The actual resonant frequency is correlated to an actual temperature of the ultrasonic blade. The control circuit retrieves from the memory a reference resonant frequency of the ultrasonic electromechanical system. The reference resonant frequency is correlated to a reference temperature of the ultrasonic blade. The control circuit then infers the temperature of the ultrasonic blade based on the difference between the actual resonant frequency and the reference resonant frequency. The control circuit controls the temperature of the ultrasonic blade based on the inferred temperature.

SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS FOR APPLYING MULTIPLE CLIPS

A surgical instrument for applying surgical clips to tissue comprises an end effector having first and second jaws that are movable between open and closed positions and configured to receive first and second rows of clips in the open position. The instrument further includes an actuator coupled to the end effector and configured to move the jaws into the closed position and to discharge the first and second rows of clips. This allows an operator to apply multiple rows of clips to tissue with a single instrument insertion, which obviates the need to remove the surgical instrument from the cannula to manually reload a new cartridge, thereby reducing the overall time of the surgical procedure.

SENSORY PERCEPTION SURGICAL SYSTEM FOR ROBOT-ASSISTED LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY
20230218358 · 2023-07-13 · ·

The present invention proposes a sensory perception system for robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. The invention comprises an electrosurgical forceps coupled to a surgical tool, an electrocautery radiofrequency signal generator and an impedance measurement circuit. The latter includes a measurement sensor for measuring a signal indicative of a magnitude corresponding to the value of contact impedance between the forceps and a patient's tissue; an oscillator; a first electrical circuit with resistors and a voltage limiter for protecting the measurement sensor and the oscillator; and a second electronic circuit with switches. The sensor and the oscillator are connected to the forceps by means of a power cable of the surgical tool. A processor connected to the measurement circuit receives said measured signal and converts same into a force vector, the modulus of which is a function of the contact impedance being measured and the argument is a function of the trajectory being followed.

A treatment instrument includes: a sheath; and an end effector that is provided at a distal end of the sheath. The end effector is capable of gripping a living tissue and applying high frequency energy to the living tissue. The end effector includes a treatment surface, and a pair of electrodes that can grip the living tissue and apply the high frequency energy to the living tissue. The treatment surface includes a distal end area that is provided on a distal end side of the treatment surface, and another area that is provided on a proximal end side of the treatment surface. The distal end area applies, to the living tissue, high frequency energy that is higher than high frequency energy applied by the other area. One of the pair of electrodes includes a distal end portion and a proximal end portion.

Smart blade application for reusable and disposable devices

An ultrasonic device may include an electromechanical system defined by a resonant frequency and further include an ultrasonic transducer coupled to an ultrasonic blade. The device may be composed of two or more components, one of which is reusable and one of which is disposable. A method of detecting a proper installation of the components may include determining a spectroscopy signature of the blade coupled to the transducer, comparing the signature to a reference signature, determining an installation state of the components based on the comparison, and controlling a delivery of power to the transducer based on the comparison. The method may include enabling an operation of the device when the installation state of components is proper. The method may further include disabling the device when the installation state is not proper and generating a warning. The warning may be visible, audible, or tactile.
