Shaft for a medical instrument, and medical instrument, in particular homopolar or bipolar medical instrument
11234725 · 2022-02-01 · ·

The invention relates to a shaft for a medical instrument (12), in particular a homopolar or bipolar medical instrument, comprising a shaft member (16) that accommodates a tool (18) at the distal end, said tool (18) being provided with a first jaw part (19) and a second jaw part (21) which can be moved relative to each other from an open position (29) into a closed position (28) by a draw bar/push rod (26) that is guided inside the shaft member (16); at the proximal end, the shaft member (16) has a connecting piece (14) for attachment to a manipulating device (23) that allows the draw bar/push rod (26) to be moved back and forth; at the distal end, each jaw part (19, 21) is pivotally guided inside the shaft member (16) by means of a sliding block (49).

Energy-based surgical instrument for grasping, treating, and/or cutting tissue

A surgical instrument (100) includes first and second shaft members (110, 120) defining proximal and distal end portions (112a, 122a, 112b, 122b) and including handles (114, 124) at the proximal end portions (112a, 122a) thereof. A pivot member (130) couples the distal end portions (112b, 122b) with a gap (G) defined therebetween proximally of the pivot member (130). First and second jaw members (210, 220) extend distally from the shaft members (110,120), distally of the pivot member (130). A lockout bar (160, 560, 660, 760) is movable between an unlocked position, withdrawn from the gap (G), and a locked position, disposed within the gap (G). The handles (114, 124) are pivotable between spaced-apart and approximated positions to pivot the jaw members (210, 220) between open and closed positions. The handles (114, 124) are yawable between the approximated position and a yawed position to yaw the jaw members (210, 220) between the closed position and a cutting position. The gap (G) provides clearance to permit yawing such that, when the lockout bar (160, 560, 660, 760) is disposed in the locked position, yawing of the handles (114, 124) is inhibited.

Electrosurgical plug for energy activation of surgical instruments

An electrosurgical system includes an electrosurgical generator having active and return terminals, an electrosurgical instrument including an active electrode, a return instrument including a return electrode, an active plug configured to connect to the active terminal of the generator, a return plug configured to connect to the return terminal of the generator, an active cable extending from the return plug to the electro surgical instrument, a return cable extending from the return plug to the return instrument, a connector cable extending from the active plug to the return plug, and a mechanical switch mechanism disposed within the return plug. The mechanical switch mechanism has a disengaged position in which the active plug is electrically disconnected from the active cable and an engaged position in which the active plug is in electrical communication with the active cable.
