10456209 · 2019-10-29 ·

An integral laser imaging and treatment apparatus, and associated systems and methods that allow a physician (e.g., a surgeon) to perform laser surgical procedures on an eye structure or a body surface with an integral laser imaging and treatment apparatus disposed at a first (i.e. local) location from a control system disposed at a second (i.e. remote) location, e.g., a physician's office. In some embodiments, communication between the integral laser imaging and treatment apparatus and control system is achieved via the Internet. Also, in some embodiments, the laser imaging and treatment apparatus includes a dynamic imaging system that verifies the identity of a patient, and is capable of being used for other important applications, such as tracking and analyzing trends in a disease process. Further, in some embodiments, the laser imaging and treatment apparatus determines the geographical location of the local laser generation unit of the system using GPS.

Dual wavelength surgical laser system

A surgical laser system includes a pump module configured to produce pump energy within an operating wavelength, a gain medium configured to convert the pump energy into first laser energy, a non-linear crystal (NLC) configured to convert a portion of the first laser energy into second laser energy, which is a harmonic of the first laser energy, an output, and a first path diversion assembly having first and second operating modes. When the first path diversion assembly is in the first operating mode, the first laser energy is directed along the output path to the output, and the second laser energy is diverted from the output path and the output. When the first path diversion assembly is in the second operating mode, the second laser energy is directed along the output path to the output, and the first laser energy is diverted from the output path and the output.

Improved systems and methods for performing laser based treatment of hard and soft tissues, e.g., bone, skin, and connective tissue, are described. The system can feature a laser adapted to produce a peak output power significantly higher than the output power produced by conventional laser-based dental treatment systems. In some instances, the system features high definition imagers for real-time, on-axis visualization and spatial measurement of the surgical region, which can include rendering 3D images. In some implementations, the system is adapted to deliver a laser beam polarized to align with the collagen fibers of bone tissue, to enhance cutting performance. In some implementations, the system is adapted to image the treatment region with polarized light, which can enable improved visualization of nerves and other anatomical structures.

An active tracking system includes an imager configured to image the temperature of a biological tissue and a heating laser configured to heat regions of the biological tissue. The imager locates high-temperature regions of the biological tissue and the heating laser is controlled to point toward target regions of the biological tissue based on the located high-temperature regions. The active tracking system can be used to control a heating laser to continuously heat a target region of a biological tissue even when the target region moves relative to the heating laser. The active tracking system could allow one or more target regions of a biological tissue to be tagged with heat by the heating laser and to be tracked even when the one or more target regions move relative to the heating laser. Devices and methods for operating such active tracking systems are also provided.

A pulsed laser skin treatment device is for laser induced optical breakdown of hair or skin tissue. A beam scanning system scans the beam to define a circular or arc path, using a rotated prism which implements a lateral shift to the beam. A focusing system at the output side of the beam scanning system focuses the incident light beam into a focal spot in the hair or skin tissue, and it rotates with the prism.
