The laser light source is coupled to and configured to receive power from the battery. The laser light source is also configured to generate laser light having a wavelength selected to target a predetermined chromophore to effectively cut a hair shaft. The shaving portion includes a support and a single fiber optic supported by the support. The fiber optic has a proximal end, a distal end, an outer wall, and a cutting region positioned towards the distal end and extending along a portion of the side wall. The fiber optic is positioned to receive the laser light from the laser light source at the proximal end, conduct the laser light from the proximal end toward the distal end, and emit the light out of the cutting region and toward hair when the cutting region is brought in contact with the hair.

GUARD STRUCTURE FOR A HAIR CUTTING DEVICE

There is provided a guard structure for use in a hair cutting device for cutting hair on a body of a subject, the guard structure comprising one or more guard elements, wherein the one or more guard elements are arranged such that in use in the hair cutting device the one or more guard elements space an optical waveguide in the hair cutting device from the skin of the subject, and wherein the one or more guard elements are shaped and/or formed to minimise or reduce the coupling of light from the optical waveguide to the guard structure.

TISSUE TREATMENT PROBE WITH BENT OPTICAL FIBER

An apparatus to treat a patient, the apparatus comprises a carrier having a proximal end and a distal end, an optical fiber to couple to a light source, a fluid delivery element comprising a nozzle having an orifice on the distal end, and an alignment structure to align the optical fiber with the orifice. A distance extends between the alignment structure and the orifice, such that the light beam emitted from the optical fiber diverges so as to allow energy transmission and fluid flow through the orifice. In some embodiments, the apparatus to ablate tissue comprises a source of pressurized fluid, and the nozzle is coupled to the source of pressurized fluid to release a fluid stream.

Surgical laser cutting device

Provided is a surgical handpiece for providing an electromagnetic cutting blade. The handpiece, comprises a body portion having an input end and an output end, a plurality of optical fibers for receiving laser energy having a wavelength within a predetermined wavelength range, wherein the optical fibers are received in the body portion at the input end and extend to the output end, and an optical fiber transition region within the body portion for arranging the plurality of optical fibers into a predetermine cutting shape at the output end, wherein laser energy transmitted from the arranged optical fibers at the output end interact with water molecules near the surgical target to generate micro-explosions that result in a cutting effect.

SURGICAL LASER SYSTEMS AND LASER LITHOTRIPSY TECHNIQUES

A laser fiber for use in performing a medical laser treatment includes an optical fiber and a fiber tip. The optical fiber includes a terminating end surface at a distal end. The fiber tip is positioned at the distal end of the optical fiber and includes a transmissive portion and a spacer portion. Laser energy discharged from the terminating end surface of the optical fiber is transmitted through the transmissive portion. The spacer portion defines a distal terminating end of the fiber tip that is spaced a predetermined distance from the terminating end surface of the optical fiber. The predetermined distance is set for shock wave generation for calculus destruction at the distal terminating end of the fiber tip.

The treatment method using multiple energy sources, includes: applying a first energy into an inside of an annulus fibrosus; and applying a second energy different from the first energy to an outside of the annulus fibrosus.

MEDICAL LASER FIBER

One described aspect is an optical fiber comprising: a fiber core that extends along a fiber axis, is configured to transmit a laser energy along the fiber axis, and terminates at a distal end; a first cladding that extends along the fiber axis, is adjacent to the fiber core, and terminates at a distal end; a coating that extends along the fiber axis and terminates at a distal end, wherein the coating is a gold coating; a second cladding that surrounds a portion of the gold coating along the fiber axis, and terminates at a distal end; an outer jacket that extends along the fiber axis and terminates at a distal end; and a fiber tip. Associated laser systems are also disclosed.

STEERABLE LASER PROBE

A steerable laser probe may include a handle, an actuation lever, an optic fiber, and a housing tube. The housing tube may have a first housing tube portion having a first stiffness and a second housing tube portion having a second stiffness. The second stiffs ness may be greater than the first stiffness. The optic fiber may be disposed within the housing tube and within an inner bore of the handle. An actuation of the actuation lever about a pivot pin of the handle may gradually curve the optic fiber. An actuation of the actuation lever about the pivot pin of the handle may gradually straighten the optic fiber.
