Implant having filament limbs of an adjustable loop disposed in a shuttle suture

A device having an implantable body associated with at least two filaments or sutures and configured for use in soft tissue reconstructions is provided. One exemplary embodiment includes an implantable body, an adjustable filament loop for holding ligament grafts that is coupled to the body, and a shuttle suture removably coupled to the implantable body and configured for shuttling the body through at least a portion of a bone tunnel. The loop can be defined by a self-locking knot, and one or more loop-adjusting limbs can extend from the knot, with a portion of the limb(s) also extending into a hollow portion of the shuttle suture. In some embodiments having two adjustable limbs, an intermediate portion of each limb can be the portions disposed in respective hollow portions of the shuttle suture. Other configurations of devices and systems, as well as methods for performing ACL repairs, are also provided.

BIOACTIVE SCAFFOLD AUGMENTATION FOR ACL RECONSTRUCTION

A bioactive scaffold for use in reconstruction of an anterior cruciate ligament of a patient, may include a tissue matrix configured to wrap around a graft configured to extend from a first bone of a joint to a second bone of the joint. The tissue matrix may include collagen type I. The tissue matrix may include a first plurality of apertures extending through the tissue matrix along a first edge of the tissue matrix and a second plurality of apertures extending through the tissue matrix along a second edge of the tissue matrix. At least one filament may be configured to be laced through the first plurality of apertures and the second plurality of apertures and draw the first edge of the tissue matrix toward the second edge of the tissue matrix when the at least one filament is subjected to tension thereby closing the tissue matrix around the graft.

Method of fastening a tissue or a corresponding prosthetic element in an opening provided in a human or animal bone and fastener suitable for the method

A graft or prosthetic element suitable, e.g., for replacing a tendon or ligament is fastened in a bone tunnel or blind opening with the aid of a fastener. In a first step, the graft or prosthetic element is press-fitted in the tunnel or opening by forcing the fastener into the opening or by positioning the fastener in the opening and then expanding it, wherein the fastener is in contact with the graft or prosthetic element and with the bone wall of the tunnel or blind opening. In a second step, the fastener is anchored in the bone wall of the tunnel or blind opening with the aid of a liquefiable material which is liquefied in the vicinity of the bone wall where it is in contact with the fastener and by making the liquefied material penetrate into the bone wall.

Method and apparatus for coupling soft tissue to bone

A method and apparatus for coupling a soft tissue implant into a locking cavity formed within a bone is disclosed. A bone engaging fastener is coupled to bone. A second fastener is coupled to a suture construction. The second fastener is coupled to the first fastener. Soft tissue is coupled to the suture construction.

A fastener is disclosed for anchoring a tether within a body of a patient. The fastener includes a one-way tissue engagement feature having an opening that receives a length of a tether and permits the length of the tether to pass through the opening in a first direction and restricts movement of the tether in a second direction opposite the first direction. The fastener also includes an engagement feature configured to maintain contact between the fastener and a bone, or other tissue, of the patient in response to tension applied to the tether in the second direction to keep the fastener in place relative to the bone.

Suture-locking washer for use with a bone anchor, and method for supporting the thumb of a patient after basal joint arthroplasty, and other novel orthopedic apparatus and other novel orthopedic procedures

The invention provides surgical methods, devices, apparatus, and systems for supporting the thumb of a patient after basal joint arthroplasty. The embodiments of the invention comprise at least one index metacarpal anchor, at least one thumb metacarpal anchor, at least one sling for positioning the thumb metacarpal anchor relative to the index metacarpal anchor, and at least one anchor washer for tightening and securing the sling(s) without the need to tie the suture(s) components of the sling(s) into knots. Index and thumb metacarpal anchors comprise at least one bone-engaging element for engaging the respective metacarpal. The anchor washer may incorporate one or more sling-engagement mechanisms. Increasing the number of sling-engagement mechanisms associated with the anchor washer increases the surface area of the sling(s) and provides multiple sling elements to provide redundancy and increase the pull force of the sling(s) attachment(s) used to affix the thumb and index metacarpal anchors into a position relative to each other.

Method and apparatus for treating cranial cruciate ligament disease in canines

A surgical guidance system (SGS) for performing a cruciate pivot osteotomy in canines to treat cranial cruciate ligament disease. The SGS comprises a guide, a jig, and a plate. The guide is first placed over the tibia until it interacts with specific anatomical features of the tibia, thereby marking the proper position for the jig to be placed. After the jig has been secured, a blade defines an osteotomy within a proximal portion of the tibia. A portion of the jig is then cranially rotated providing a rotational correction of the proximal tibia. A compressive force is then applied to the osteotomy by the jig. Next the multiplane locking plate is placed over the osteotomy as dictated by the features of the jig. After initially securing the plate into its correct position, the jig is removed and the plate is then secured to the cranial surface of the tibia.

Method and apparatus for coupling soft tissue to a bone

A method and apparatus for coupling a soft tissue implant into a locking cavity formed within a bone is disclosed. The apparatus includes a member to pull the soft tissue implant into a femoral tunnel. The member includes a suture having first and second ends which are passed through first and second openings associated with the longitudinal passage to form a pair of loops. Portions of the suture lay parallel to each other within the suture. Application of tension onto the suture construction causes retraction of the soft tissue implant into the femoral tunnel.
