Modular intraocular lens designs, tools and methods

Modular IOL systems including a base and a lens, wherein the lens includes fixed and actuatable tabs for connection to the base. The modular IOL allows for the lens to be adjusted or exchanged while leaving the base in place, either intra-operatively or post-operatively. Drug delivery capabilities and/or sensing capabilities may be incorporated into the base. Injector devices may be used to facilitate placement of the base and the lens sequentially or simultaneously into the eye.

Intraocular lens injector

There is provided an intraocular lens injector for injecting an intraocular lens into an eye, including: an injector main body 5; an injection tube 7 attached to a tip part of the injector main body 5 and having a nozzle portion 7b; and an attachment member 16 having a protruding surface disposed in a state of protruding to outside from an outer circumferential surface of the nozzle portion 7b, wherein the attachment member 16 has an engaging portion 16b engaged with a sleeve portion 16a and is configured to be movable with respect to the injection tubed 7.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR LENS MANAGEMENT

An example lens management device can include a sleeve, a modular cartridge configured to house a lens, and a tray configured to transition from a first position to a second position. The tray can include a first tray component configured to removably hold the modular cartridge, and a second tray component movably attached to the first tray component. The modular cartridge can be configured to house the lens in a third position when the tray is in the first position, and in a fourth position when the tray is in the second position, the fourth position being distal to the third position. Transitioning the tray from the first to the second position causes the sleeve to enter into the modular cartridge such that the distal tip of the sleeve is positioned to engage with the lens and move the lens from the third position to the fourth position.

An apparatus for eye surgery. Some embodiments may comprise a housing, a bore through the housing, and a push rod at least partially disposed in the bore. The push rod may be operable to move between three rod positions within the bore. A plunger key may be coupled to the housing and operable to move between three key positions. In the first key position, the plunger key may prevent the push rod from moving from a first rod position. In the second key position, the plunger key may allow the push rod to slide through the bore from the first rod position to a second rod position. In the second key position, the plunger key may also allow the push rod to be rotated to advance to a third rod position. In the third key position, the plunger key may allow the push rod to slide through the bore from the second rod position to the third rod position.
