Injector for intraocular lenses
11931246 · 2024-03-19 · ·

An intraocular lens implantation injector has a base body and elongated actuation element projecting into a base body rear section, movably guided along an actuation axis. Actuation element movement is generated selectively by axial push actuation or screw actuation about the axis. The actuation element features an external thread at least on one section. A switch element arranged to the base body is rotatable about or displaceable along the axis. The switch element features a spring arm, having an inner surface thread engagement structure facing the external thread. The base body inner surface forms an operative contact with a spring arm outer surface. The inner and/or outer surface is angularly inclined to the axis, or the inner surface features an inner radius varying circumferentially at least in sections about the axis. Switch element rotation/displacement generates spring arm elastic deformation towards/away from the axis, for selective thread engagement structure engagement.

An intraocular lens implantation injector has a base body and an elongated actuation element projecting into a base body rear section and movably guided along an actuation axis. Actuation element movement is generated selectively by axial push actuation or by a screw actuation about the axis. The actuation element features an external thread at least on one section. At least one spring arm arranged at the base body has an inner surface thread engagement structure facing the external thread. A switch element, interacting with the spring arm, is rotatably or displaceably arranged on the base body. The switch element interacts with the spring arm via an operative contact. At least one switch element inner surface and/or spring arm outer surface involved in the operative contact is angularly inclined to the axis. Switch element rotation/displacement generates spring arm elastic deformation towards/away from the axis, thereby engaging/disengaging the thread engagement structure.

Packaging-assisted actuation for an intraocular lens cartridge

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for storing and/or shipping an intraocular lens (IOL) cartridge are provided. A system comprises a packaging comprising a passage. The IOL cartridge is removably disposed within the passage. The IOL cartridge comprises a nozzle and a compartment configured to receive an IOL. The nozzle is in fluid communication with the compartment. The IOL cartridge further comprises a dial configured to rotate upon withdrawal of the IOL cartridge from the passage, wherein an inner surface of the dial is exposed to the compartment. The dial is configured to fold the IOL and release the IOL cartridge from the packaging upon rotation of the dial.

An injector for inserting an intraocular lens into a capsular bag of an eye includes an injector body having an injector tip defining an opening. The injector body has a proximal end facing away from the opening and has a distal end. A first piston is directed toward the opening and is configured to contact and displace the intraocular lens. A second piston is operable from outside of the injector and the first piston and the second piston are each configured to be longitudinally displaceable along the injector axis. A handle is operated from outside of the injector and is configured to be coupled to the first piston so that when the pistons are in the decoupling state, the first piston is displaced toward the opening and relative to the second piston by moving the handle.

IOL delivery systems

An intraocular lens (IOL) insertion apparatus includes a handpiece body having a distal tip and a proximal section. The IOL insertion apparatus also includes a folding chamber located within the handpiece body, the folding chamber shaped to fold an IOL advancing through the folding chamber. The IOL insertion apparatus also includes an advancement system. The advancement system includes an advancement carriage movable between a first position and a second position within the handpiece body. The advancement carriage includes a spring system biasing the advancement carriage in a distal direction toward the second position and a dampening system to dampen motion of the advancement carriage. The advancement system further includes an elongated advancement plunger that includes a distal end to advance the IOL through the folding chamber and a proximal end connected to the advancement carriage.

Various systems and techniques for inserting an intraocular lens are disclosed. In particular implementations, a system and a technique for inserting an intraocular lens may include the ability to move, in response to a force being applied in a first direction along a longitudinal axis, a first plunger tip along the longitudinal axis and into a delivery cartridge to fold an intraocular lens and move in a second direction along the longitudinal axis in response to the applied force being reduced. The system and the technique may also include the ability to engage a second plunger tip and move, in response to a force being applied in the first direction along the longitudinal axis, the second plunger tip along the longitudinal axis and into the delivery cartridge to insert the intraocular lens.

INJECTOR ASSEMBLY EMPLOYING COMPRESSED GAS AND A MECHANICAL BRAKE FOR PRESENTING AN INTRAOCULAR LENS TO A PATIENT

An intraocular lens (IOL) injector is configured for single hand operation and employs a compressed gas to provide a motive force to present an IOL to a surgical site. The IOL injector includes a mechanical brake coupled to a plunger to preclude translation of an IOL absent operator input. The mechanical brake provides for selectively varying the speed and translation of the plunger, and hence IOL during presentation of the IOL to a patient. The IOL injector can also include at least a first stop, which halts movement of the plunger at a predetermined position. The at least first stop is then moved to a passing position, thereby allowing further operator controlled translation of the plunger to present the IOL to the surgical site.

INTRAOCULAR LENS DELIVERY DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE

An IOL delivery device which has a macro movement actuator which is actuateable to move an IOL into position in the device for the IOL to be delivered, and a micro movement actuator comprising at least one pivotable member which is pivotable to deliver the IOL to the eye. The pivotable member may comprise one or more wheels that are rotatable using one's finger.
