An inorganic-organic hybrid coating applied to a polymer and method for forming same to provide improved hydrophilicity and lubricity to the surface of the polymer. The hydrophilic coating is on the order of one micron thick, as is formed by activating the surface of the polymer, reacting the activated surface of the polymer with a Lewis acid metallic composition, and then quenching the coating in salt solution having a pH>7.2 at a temperature above the glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) of the polymer.

An intraocular lens injector (1) includes: a hollow body having an injector body (5) provided with a lens placement portion (11) on which an intraocular lens is placed, and a screw member (8) with a first threaded portion (8b) formed thereon and connected to a rear end portion of the injector body (5), and rotatable around an axis of the injector body (5) without moving in an axial direction of the injector body; and a moving member (9, 10) having a second threaded portion (9c) that engages with the first threaded portion (8b) from an initial state before use, and configured to release the intraocular lens from a tip of an injection tube 7 by moving in an axial direction of the injector body (5) independently from the screw member (8) due to an engagement of the first threaded portion (8b) and the second threaded portion (9c), during a rotating operation of the screw member (8).

INTRAOCULAR LENS DELIVERY SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USE

An apparatus for deploying an intraocular lens into an eye including a fluid delivery device that includes a fluid passageway extending to a proximal end of the fluid delivery device, the fluid passageway adapted to allow a fluid to flow therethrough from the proximal end of the fluid delivery device to within the fluid passageway, and a side vent that is not an intraocular lens delivery port, the side vent disposed proximal to an intraocular lens and adapted to vent air when fluid flows through the fluid passage, wherein the side vent is adapted to resist the flow of a viscoelastic material therethrough.

An ophthalmosurgical injector includes a cannula, a barrel, an outer plunger mounted in the barrel and together with the barrel delimiting a barrel cavity arranged in the barrel, and into which an intraocular lens can be introduced, and an inner plunger mounted in the outer plunger and together with the outer plunger delimiting an outer plunger cavity arranged in the outer plunger and into which a liquid can be introduced. The injector is configured such that a first movement, executed by the inner plunger relative to the outer plunger such that the outer plunger cavity becomes smaller, causes the liquid to flow from the outer plunger cavity into the barrel cavity, and a second movement, executed by the outer plunger relative to the barrel such that the barrel cavity becomes smaller, causes the intraocular lens to be pressed out of the barrel cavity and into the cannula.

Hydraulic delivery of surgical implants

An apparatus for eye surgery may comprise a nozzle having a delivery lumen, an implant bay coupled to the nozzle, an implant disposed in the implant bay, and an actuator coupled to the implant bay. The actuator may comprise a housing, a plunger disposed within the housing, a bore through the plunger, a first coupling proximate to a first end of the plunger, and a second coupling integral to the housing. The bore may be fluidly coupled to the implant bay. The first coupling may be configured to receive a hydraulic driver and fluidly couple a working fluid in the hydraulic driver to the bore. A portion of the plunger may be slidingly disposed through the second coupling. In some embodiments, the second coupling may be configured to retain a drive coupling of the hydraulic driver in a fixed position relative to the housing.

The present disclosure provides a device and method for inserting an IOL into an eye of a patient. The IOL injector can be configured to preload an IOL into the lens cartridge of the injector without manual manipulation of the IOL by the nurse and/or physician during the procedure. The injector can be configured to properly orient and align the IOL within the injector and maintain proper alignment throughout delivery of the IOL to the eye of a patient and thereby ensuring that the IOL is properly positioned and oriented at a predetermined location in the eye.

A cartridge includes a first opening, a second opening, a channel, an intraocular lens arranged in the channel, and a cartridge plunger arranged in the channel and configured to firstly preload the intraocular lens by moving the cartridge plunger towards the first opening, then to fold the lens by moving it in the tapered region, and finally to push the lens out of the channel via the first opening. The cartridge is configured to be coupled to a syringe such that a fluid can be injected into the channel, and as a result the cartridge plunger can be propelled in a movement direction towards the first opening. The cartridge plunger includes a first cartridge plunger longitudinal end, a second cartridge plunger longitudinal end, and a fluid line via which the fluid can be injected from the second to the first cartridge plunger longitudinal end and finally to the intraocular lens.

Inserter cap and related features

A cap configured and dimensioned to sweep or fold one or more haptics when removed from an insertion device. The cap may further have a pin, one or more snaps and/or one or more locks. The cap may also have one or more ports and/or one or more windows. An insertion system having a handpiece, a cartridge, and a cap configured and dimensioned to sweep or fold one or more haptics when the cap is removed from the insertion system. The cap is configured and dimensioned to couple with the distal end of the cartridge.
