20220047383 · 2022-02-17 ·

A two-part accommodating intraocular lens (IOL) device for implantation in a capsular bag of a patient's eye. The IOL device includes a primary lens assembly and a power changing lens. The primary lens assembly includes a fixed lens and a peripherally disposed centration member. The centration member has a circumferential distal edge and a first coupling surface adjacent the circumferential distal edge. The power changing lens has an enclosed, fluid- or gel-filled lens cavity and haptic system disposed peripherally of the lens cavity. The haptic system has a peripheral engaging edge configured to contact the capsular bag and a second coupling surface. The first and second coupling surfaces are in sliding contact with one another to permit movement of the power changing lens relative to the primary lens assembly and also to maintain a spaced relationship between the fixed lens and the lens cavity during radial compression of the power changing lens.

Foldable intraocular lens and method of making

A foldable intraocular lens for providing vision contains an optic body that includes an optical zone and a peripheral zone entirely surrounding the optical zone. The optic body has an anterior face, a substantially opposing posterior face, an optic edge, and an optical axis. The anterior face comprises a central face, a peripheral face, and a recessed annular face therebetween that is disposed posterior to the peripheral face. The intraocular lens further comprises at least one haptic that is integrally formed with the peripheral zone. The haptic comprises a distal posterior face, a proximal posterior face, and a step edge disposed at a boundary therebetween. The haptic further comprises a side edge disposed between the optic edge and the step edge. The proximal posterior face and the posterior face of the optic body form a continuous surface. An edge corner is formed by the intersection of the continuous surface with the optic edge, the side edge, and the step edge.

Accommodating intraocular lenses and methods of manufacturing

An intraocular lens is disclosed that includes an optic body with a projection extending radially outwards from a peripheral surface of the optic body. The projection comprises a haptic contact surface facing radially outward, wherein the entire haptic contact surface is a flat surface. A haptic having a free distal end and a proximal portion is secured to the projection along the haptic contact surface, wherein the projection and the proximal portion interface at a butt joint without the haptic extending into the projection and without the projection extending into the haptic. The haptic also includes a haptic fluid chamber.

An intraocular lens comprising an optic and four haptics extending from the optic, each haptic having a proximal end meeting with the optic at differing points about a periphery of the optic. The four haptics are arranged into a first pair comprising two arcuate haptics with curvature orientated toward each other such that a distal end of each of the two haptics of the first pair are in nearer relation than their proximal ends; and, a second pair comprising two arcuate haptics with curvature orientated toward each other such that a distal end of each of the two haptics of the second pair are in nearer relation than their proximal end.

DUAL OPTIC, CURVATURE CHANGING ACCOMMODATIVE IOL HAVING A FIXED DISACCOMMODATED REFRACTIVE STATE

An IOL includes a fluid optic body having a cavity defined by a sidewall, a deformable optical membrane intersecting the sidewall around an anterior circumference of the sidewall, and a posterior optic intersecting the sidewall around a posterior circumference of the sidewall. The posterior optic includes a central protrusion extending anteriorly into the cavity and the deformable optical membrane includes a ring-shaped protrusion extending posteriorly into a space between the sidewall and the central protrusion. A second optic body is spaced apart from the fluid optic body and coupled thereto via a plurality of struts. Axial compression causes the plurality of struts to deform the sidewall in a manner that increases the diameter of the cavity, modifying a curvature of the deformable optical membrane is modified. Contact between the ring-shaped protrusion and the central protrusion defines a maximum modification to the curvature of the deformable optical membrane.

An intraocular assembly includes a peripheral side wall (12) that has a rim (16) sized to receive therein an intraocular device, and a posterior peripheral edge (20) that is sharp and extends out from a posteriorly-facing end face (22) of the side wall. An interior perimeter of the rim is a combination of continuous concave and convex shapes.

METHOD OF SURGICALLY IMPLANTING AN INTRAOCULAR LENS (IOL) USING A CAPSULAR PROSTHESIS TO SUPPORT POSTERIOR CHAMBER FIXATION
20220233304 · 2022-07-28 ·

A capsular prosthesis is disclosed that is implanted to support posterior chamber placement of IOLs. The capsular prosthesis can be implanted to replace the capsule in situations where the patient's natural capsule has been rendered incapable of providing the structural support necessary to maintain proper centration of an IOL implanted therein. The prosthesis is surgically implanted into the eye by inserting the prosthesis into the eye through a primary incision. The prosthesis is secured to the sclera of the eye with at least two transscleral sutures to establish at least three points of contact between the sclera and the at least three apertures of the prosthesis. The at least two transscleral sutures support the sheet within a desired plane located within the posterior chamber, the plane containing a predetermined surgical axis passing through the center aperture. The IOL is inserted through the primary incision and optically captured on the prosthesis.
