Accommodative Functionality for Artificial Capsule Platform
A method of using an implantable artificial intraocular lens capsule to provide accommodative functionality through forward backward movement. The implantable artificial capsule has a ring with a central opening to accommodate an intraocular lens and at least three haptic arms extending from the ring. Visual accommodation is accomplished by forward or backward motion of the artificial intraocular lens which is made possible by the flexibility or stimuli induced shape change of the haptic arms. Stimuli include (i) mechanical forces acting on the haptic arms for example by the ciliary muscle, (ii) gravitational forces acting on the artificial intraocular lens, (iii) forces acting indirectly on the haptics arms or (iv) external forces including electrical or electromagnetic delivered via the externalized haptics.
INTRAOCULAR PSEUDOPHAKIC CONTACT LENSES AND RELATED SYSTEMS AND METHODS
An apparatus includes an intraocular pseudophakic contact lens having a first optical lens, multiple projections extending from the first optical lens, and multiple anchors partially embedded in or configured to pass through the projections. The anchors are configured to pierce lens material forming a second optical lens of an artificial intraocular lens in order to secure the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens to the artificial intraocular lens. Different portions of the first optical lens have different refractive powers such that a first portion of the first optical lens has a first refractive power and a second portion of the first optical lens has a second refractive power different from the first refractive power.
DEVICES TO SUPPORT AND POSITION AN INTRAOCULAR LENS WITHIN THE EYE AND METHODS OF USE
An implantable device for supporting an artificial intraocular lens in an eye having an anterior segment of a capsular bag, an iris, and a sclera. The device includes a posterior platform having an anterior-facing surface and an inner wall defining, at least in part, a central aperture. When the device is implanted in the eye, light passes through the intraocular lens and the central aperture of the posterior platform towards the retina. The device includes at least one awning positioned over the anterior-facing surface of the posterior platform forming at least one recess anterior to the posterior platform. The device is configured to be deployed in the eye posterior of the iris so that no portion of the device rests in contact with the sclera after implantation. A prosthetic capsular device configured to be inserted in an eye includes a housing structure and a ring structure. The housing structure includes a first side, a second side opposite the first side, a third side, a fourth side opposite the third side, a posterior side including a refractive surface, an anterior side opposite the posterior side, and a longitudinal axis. The first side, the second side, the third side, the fourth side, the posterior side, and the anterior side at least partially define a cavity configured to contain an intraocular device (e.g., an IOL). The anterior side includes an opening. The ring structure includes a ring structure portion extending radially outward from proximate one of an end of the first side and an end of the second side.
Devices for reconstruction of a lens capsule after cataract surgery
Provided herein are devices used to reconstruct a natural lens capsule after a cataract surgery. The device has a ring-shaped rigid component, a ring-shaped flexible component and a groove disposed on an inner surface of the rigid component. The device also may have a ledge disposed on an inner surface of the flexible component. The rigid component has a distal end attached to the ring-shaped flexible component and a proximal end that lies against Wieger's ligament when fitted within the natural lens capsule. The ring-shaped flexible component has a proximal end that is attached to the distal end of the rigid component and a distal end that contacts an anterior surface of the natural lens capsule when fitted therein. The groove is disposed to receive optics of an intraocular lens and/or the ledge is disposed to secure haptics thereof.
DEVICES TO SUPPORT AND POSITION AN INTRAOCULAR LENS WITHIN THE EYE AND METHODS OF USE
A device for supporting an intraocular lens in an eye. The device has a lens support structure having an inner perimeter surface defining, at least in part, a central opening. When implanted, light may pass through the central opening towards the retina. The device has at least three fixation arms, each having an origin portion coupled to the lens support structure and a terminal portion comprising an anchor for trans-scleral fixation of the device. Prior to implantation, at least one fixation arm is biased towards a folded configuration and has a bend between the origin portion and the terminal portion. The origin portion extends away from the lens support structure and the anchor of the terminal portion is positioned over or under at least one of a portion of the lens support structure and a portion of the central opening. A prosthetic capsular device configured to be inserted in a natural capsular bag of an eye after removal of a lens includes a housing structure capable of containing an intraocular device. The housing structure includes a posterior side, an anterior side opposite the posterior side, lateral sides extending between the posterior side and the anterior side, and a cavity at least partially defined by the posterior side, the anterior side, and the lateral sides. The posterior side includes a refractive surface and an opening radially outward of the refractive surface. The anterior side includes an aperture capable of allowing at least one of insertion, removal, and replacement of an intraocular device. The cavity is capable of containing an intraocular device.
