SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FACILITATING SURGICAL PROCEDURES INVOLVING CUSTOM MEDICAL IMPLANTS
Systems and methods for planning surgical procedures involving custom medical implants that can involve the selection, design and/or creation of custom medical implants and/or the selection, modification, and/or design of custom surgical procedures related to those implants. Certain embodiments allow implants to be selected, designed, created, or otherwise customized and then placed in patients using non-standard surgical techniques. The invention provides greater flexibility in implant use by allowing a surgeon to revise, create, or otherwise select surgical techniques for custom implants and, ultimately, provide better treatment in a greater variety of medical circumstances. Certain embodiments of the invention involve computer assisted surgery to provide for implant-related surgery involving non-standard surgical steps and/or implants.
FLOATING JOINT REPLACEMENT DEVICE WITH SUPPORTIVE SIDEWALL
A meniscus replacement device for replacing damaged soft tissue at a host knee includes a first component comprising a first tissue-interface surface shaped to free-floatingly interface with tissue structure of one of a femur and a tibia in a knee joint having a damaged soft tissue, and comprises a second component comprising a second tissue-interface surface shaped to free-floatingly interface with a second tissue structure of the other of the femur and the tibia in the knee joint. The second component may include a containment cavity receiving at least a portion of the first component. In another form, the free floating soft joint tissue replacement component and the base component are fixed together. In some aspects, the second tissue-interface surface is shaped to fit contours of a natural tibia plateau. In some aspects, the first tissue-interface surface is shaped to fit contours of a femoral surface.
Tilting Surgical Tensor To Support At Least One Bone Cut
A surgical apparatus configured to be placed in the musculoskeletal system to precisely separate a first bone from a second bone. The surgical apparatus has one or more sensors to measure one or more parameters and supports one or more bone cuts for installing a prosthetic component. The surgical apparatus has three distraction mechanisms configured to increase or decrease a height between a first support structure and a second support structure. The tilt mechanism adjusts the tilt between the first support structure relative to the second support structure. The tilt mechanism of the surgical apparatus is adjusted from a first tilt to a second tilt to support a bone cut on one of the first or second bones.
CRUCIATE-RETAINING KNEE PROSTHESIS
Certain embodiments generally provide an improved tibial base member comprising keel portions that allow one or both cruciate ligaments to be preserved. Other embodiments provide improved lateral and/or medial inserts having a mesial lip that helps relieve and or prevent impingement between the femoral component and the tibial eminence. Other embodiments provide improved femoral components having various chamfers to provide additional clearance with respect to the tibial eminence and posterior cruciate ligament without decreasing bone coverage.

Fully porous prosthetic hip stem
A prosthetic hip stem for use in a prosthetic hip joint. The hip stem generally includes a core having a stem portion and a neck portion, a polymer matrix layer substantially covering the stem portion of the core, and a porous metal layer substantially covering the polymer matrix layer. The polymer matrix layer connects the core and the porous metal layer, and may be injection molded therebetween. The neck portion of the hip stem has a relatively thin or slender profile which allows for an increased degree of articulating movement of the hip stem with respect to the acetabular component of a prosthetic hip joint. The neck portion of the hip stem additionally includes a version indicator element, such as a bump or a protrusion, which may be tactilely felt by a surgeon to aid the surgeon in positioning the hip stem during a minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty procedure, for example, where direct visualization of the hip stem by the surgeon may not be possible. Additionally, the core of the hip stem includes grooves, ridges, flats, dimples or other features to enhance the mechanical interconnection between the core and the polymer matrix layer.
PROPHYLACTIC BACTERICIDAL MEDICAL DEVICE
A medical implant system is described for inhibiting infection associated with a joint prosthesis implant. An inventive system includes an implant body made of a biocompatible material which has a metal component disposed on an external surface of the implant body. A current is allowed to flow to the metal component, stimulating release of metal ions toxic to microbes, such as bacteria, protozoa, fungi, and viruses. One detailed system is completely surgically implantable in the patient such that no part of the system is external to the patient while the system is in use. In addition, externally controlled devices are provided which allow for modulation of implanted components.
TIBIAL TRAY WITH REMOVABLE SPIKES
According to one example, a tibial replacement assembly for a knee arthroplasty can be configured to couple to a resected proximal surface of a tibia of a human knee. The tibial replacement assembly can include a tibial tray and a first spike. The tibial tray can include a proximal surface and a distal surface opposing the proximal surface. The distal surface can be configured to be disposed on a resected proximal surface of a tibia. The first spike can be removably secured to the tibial tray and can extend generally distally away from the distal surface. The first spike can be configured to extend beneath the resected proximal surface of the tibia.
COMPONENTS FOR ARTIFICIAL JOINTS
A component of an artificial joint according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, inter alia, a hollow tube including bone ingrowth material. Further, the hollow tube is selectively expandable. The bone ingrowth material allows the component to become biologically fixed to adjacent bone. Further, expansion of the hollow tube increases friction between the hollow tube and the adjacent bone, which increases stability.
