A device for insertion into a gap between adjacent, spaced apart bony elements includes an adjustable length interconnecting member having a distal and a proximal retention plate secured to opposite ends of the interconnecting member. The distal retention plate has a non-rotated position and a plurality of rotated positions. The non-rotated position aligns the distal retention plate with the gap prior to and during insertion of the distal retention plate into the gap. The distal retention plate is rotated after it has exited the gap on a distal side of the gap to prevent its return into the gap. The proximal retention plate is misaligned with the gap so that it cannot enter into the gap. The rotated distal retention plate cooperates with the proximal retention plate to hold bony elements such as adjacent vertebral bodies in a stable relationship to one another when the interconnecting member is shortened.

SPINAL IMPLANT SYSTEM AND METHOD

A spinal implant includes an implant body extending between an anterior surface and a posterior surface. The implant body includes a first vertebral engaging surface and a second vertebral engaging surface. The implant body defines a cavity. A plate is connectable with the implant body via a coupling member adjacent the cavity and is translatable relative thereto. The coupling member has a portion including a frangible torque limit. The plate defines at least one opening oriented to implant a fastener with tissue. Systems, spinal constructs, surgical instruments and methods are disclosed.

Bone fusion system

A method and system for performing bone fusion and/or securing one or more bones, such as adjacent vertebra, are disclosed. The screw includes a threaded distal piece fixedly attached connected to an inner post. Both the inner post and the proximal piece have non-cylindrical receptacles at their proximal ends for engagement with driving tools. Independent rotation of the proximal piece and the distal piece enables for compression or decompression to modify the gap between two bones or bone fragments. During use, the distal piece of the bone screw is placed at least partially within a distal bone, the proximal piece is placed at least partially within a proximal bone, and one of two pieces is rotated while the other is held in a fixed position, causing movement of the proximal and distal bones relative to each other.

A device and methods for intervertebral spinal fusion of adjacent intervertebral bodies. An intervertebral spacer is positioned within a narrow disc space between adjacent intervertebral bodies of a patient. The spacer is arranged with upper and lower guides. The guides are adapted to simultaneously guide the deployment of upper and lower anchors of an anchoring device into their respective intervertebral bodies. The spacer is also adapted to lock the upper and lower anchors to the spacer in the deployed position.

Multi-material multi-component spinal implant

An implantable medical device, such as an intervertebral spacer, may comprise a polymeric component and a metallic component. The metallic component can contain both porous metal and substantially-solid metal. The polymeric material can contain particles of an osseointegrative material. The metallic component can be more protruding toward bone than the polymeric component while having a smaller dimension of roughness than the polymeric component. In embodiments, the pin may press-fit against substantially solid metal. The porous metal may surround solid metal which in turn may surround the pin. The pin may have a press-fit with metal and a looser fit with polymeric component, if the metal components and polymeric components are trapped. A pin may connect superior and inferior metal components by a press-fit. The central opening may be exposed to porous metal and also to substantially-solid metal and to polymer. Specific geometries of implants are disclosed.
