A method and a computer system is provided for designing a mandibular joint prosthesis for a patient's skull side to be treated. The method matches a standardized model of the mandibular joint to a graphic representation of the patient's healthy skull side and mirrors the model along a mirror plane onto a graphic representation of the skull side to be treated in order to make corresponding detailed adaptations.

MUSCLE FUNCTION PRESERVATION TYPE TOTAL TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT PROSTHESIS

A muscle function preservation type total temporomandibular joint prosthesis includes an articular fossa member (1) and an articular head member (2) abutting against the articular fossa member (1). The articular head member (2) includes a mandibular trailing edge fixing plate (21), a sigmoid notch fixing plate (22) and an articular head portion (23). The mandibular trailing edge fixing plate (21) is connected to a bottom end of the articular head portion (23) and extends downwards, and has a plate-shaped structure and includes a mandibular-trailing-edge-surface attaching surface. The sigmoid notch fixing plate (22) protrudes from one side of the mandibular trailing edge fixing plate (21) and extends in a direction away from the mandibular trailing edge fixing plate (21), and has a plate-shaped structure and includes a mandibular-ramus-proximal-sigmoid-notch-portion attaching surface.

A prosthesis for at least a portion of a bone, in particular a bone or portion thereof to which, in the natural condition, a tendon of a muscle is attached, wherein the prosthesis is manufactured of a metal or an alloy thereof and is provided with at least one area situated in the surface of the prosthesis that faces outward once the prosthesis has been placed in the body, the area being formed by a layer provided with open spaces that are connected to each other, wherein the open spaces are dimensioned for allowing the growth of bone tissue therein.

Temporo-mandibular prosthesis

A temporo-mandibular prosthesis including a glenoid part and a condylar part intended to be articulated relative to the glenoid part. The glenoid part including a glenoid support made in a metallic material; and a glenoid insert made in a non-metal lie material, and defining a seat for a head of said condylar part to define said articulation, wherein the glenoid support defines a housing having an opening through which said glenoid insert is insertable into said housing, said opening opening on an external side (E) of said glenoid support, the glenoid support comprising a tab configurable in a passive position and in an active position in which said tab allows and forbids, respectively, the insertion and the extraction, respectively, of said glenoid insert into and out of said housing, respectively.

Customized artificial temporomandibular joint unit

A customized artificial temporomandibular joint unit according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a first plate provided along a lower line of a lower jawbone forming a temporomandibular joint and having an insertion groove that is outwardly open, a second plate provided at a temporal bone forming the temporomandibular joint together with the lower jawbone, and a main prothesis detachably combined to the first plate without a separate fastening device by being forcibly fit into the insertion groove while approaching the first plate, and arranged in a customized manner at a facing surface location facing the second plate.

IMPLANTABLE DEVICE FOR TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT AND METHOD OF PRODUCTION THEREOF

Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure are directed towards an implantable device for complete replacement of temporomandibular joint comprising of a condyle component to reconstruct a mandibular end of the temporomandibular joint designed for movement within the implantable device with a plate; and a condyle surface where the plate is configured to mechanically secure the condyle component to a ramus surface of a patient undergoing implant with the aid of screws; and the condyle surface polished to generate a mirror effect to reduce the friction in the implantable device and infection rate; a zygomatic arch component to reconstruct a temporal bone (glenoid fossa) of the temporomandibular joint comprising at least one of: a plate; a plurality of multiple threaded counter sink holes; a plurality of conically tapered holes and a zygomatic arch surface, whereby the multiple threaded counter sink holes are structured within the plate; and a fossa component configured to be positioned between the condyle component and the zygomatic arch component to anchor the movement of the temporomandibular joint and the fossa component comprising of a low density biocompatible material made of a polycarbonate which is utilized in the additive manufacturing for the synthesis of implantable device for temporomandibular joint.

TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT IMPLANTS AND METHODS OF TREATING A TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT

The present disclosure provides intramedullary mandibular implants for the temporomandibular joint. The mandibular implants include a stem portion, a collar portion and a head portion. The stem, collar and head portions may be integral. The stem portion may define an inferior end and the head portion may define a superior end of the implants. The head portion may be arcuate in the sagittal plane to provide an articulating surface with a fossa or a fossa component. The collar portion may be intermediate of the head and stem portions and form a channel between an interior surface of the collar portion and an exterior surface of the stem portion. In use, the stem portion may be implanted within a condyle of a mandible such that an end portion of the condyle is situated within the channel of the implant and the head portion articulates with the fossa or fossa component.
