Hip Arthroplasty Trial Systems and Associated Medical Devices, Methods, and Kits

Hip arthroplasty trial systems and associated medical devices, methods, and kits are described that can be utilized in situ to complete a femoral head trial. An example embodiment of a hip arthroplasty trial system includes a medical device and a femoral stem. The medical device has a head member, a spacer, a shaft, and a locking member. The spacer is disposed within the head member and is moveable from a first position to a second position. The shaft is disposed within the head member and contacts the femoral stem. The shaft is moveable from a first position to a second position. Movement of the shaft from the first position to the second position moves the spacer from its first position to its second position. The locking member is disposed within the head member and releasably attaches the shaft to the head member.

A method of treating a hip joint of a human patient using a pelvic drill comprising a driving member, a bone contacting and an operating device for operating said driving member. The method comprise the steps of creating a hole passing through the pelvic bone and into the hip joint of the human patient, and providing at least one hip joint surface to the hip joint, through said hole in the pelvic bone of the human patient. In one embodiment the method includes inserting a needle or tube like instrument into the patient's body for filling a part of the patient's body with gas and thereby expanding a cavity within the body.

Prosthetic Implant Removal Tool and Associated Method
20220125591 · 2022-04-28 ·

Disclosed is a tool and an associated method for removing a prosthetic implant. Although the tool can be used to remove a variety of different prosthetic implants, it finds particular application in the removal of femoral implants. In one embodiment, both lateral and medial tools are utilized. The lateral tool includes a generally arcuate shape with upstanding sidewalls that define an arcuate interior. The lateral tool is thus dimensioned to follow the contour of the lateral side of a femoral implant. The medial tool includes opposing side walls that define an interior opening. The opening is sized to receive the neck of the femoral implant, thereby allowing the tool to closely follow the medial bone/implant interface.

Hip or shoulder prosthesis and placement instruments

A hip/shoulder prosthesis includes: a head component; a metaphyseal component; a diaphyseal nail, and a locking device. The head component includes: a front face and rear face; with a bore, and first and second shaped recesses in the rear face. The metaphyseal component includes: a central transverse aperture at an angle to the metaphyseal component's axis; a first end configured for threaded engagement within the bore of the head component; and a longitudinal hole that begins at the second end, transects the transverse aperture and reaches the first end, to receive the locking device. The diaphyseal nail is inserted in the femoral or humeral canal, and includes: fastening apertures that receive corresponding screws for fastening the diaphyseal nail to the femur or humerus; a portion configured to he received within, and engage, the transverse aperture of the metaphyseal component, and a transverse hole configured to receive the locking device.

Modular femoral trialing system permitting relative movement

An assembly for attachment to a first implant component has a size and shape of a second implant component to be implanted together with the first implant component. The assembly includes a first body and a second body removably connected to the first body. In a temporary configuration, the first and second bodies are prevented from separating while the first and second bodies permit relative movement therebetween. A modular kit includes a plurality of the first bodies each having a different size or shape, and a plurality of the second bodies each having a different size or shape. A method of assembling the assembly includes removably connecting the first body to the second body, such that the first and second bodies are prevented from separating while permitting relative movement therebetween, and positioning the assembly on the first implant component.

Self-Broaching Neck Preserving Hip Stem

A self-broaching, neck-preserving hip stem includes a set of rasp teeth on a distal-lateral portion of the stem to allow the stem to be impacted into a femur without the use of surgical broaches. The rasp teeth are disposed on a relief surface. The stem includes a length, radius of curvature, and a dual-taper in the anterior-posterior and distal-lateral directions which allow the neck to self-broach and seat itself proximal to the conventional resection level to preserve greater bone stock in the femur.

SYSTEM FOR BALANCING A HIP DURING A HIP ARTHROPLASTY

The present invention is an internal osseointegrated transfemoral amputee implant device and related methods. The device is designed to restore the enclosed nature of the bone marrow system which is disrupted by amputation, plus provide a pressure tolerant (weight-bearing) surface and mechanical anchoring for the iliotibial band.

METAL-CERAMIC COMPOSITE JOINT PROSTHESIS AND APPLICATIONS AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF
20210361434 · 2021-11-25 · ·

The present invention discloses a metal-ceramic composite joint prosthesis and applications and a manufacturing method thereof. The joint prosthesis comprises a metal body and a ceramic body, wherein the metal body is integrally formed and comprises a porous structure layer, a boundary layer and a root-like layer, the boundary layer is located between the porous structure layer and the root-like layer, the root-like layer comprises a plurality of root-like filament clusters connected to the boundary layer but not in contact with one another, each root-like filament cluster comprises a main root perpendicularly connected to the boundary layer and a plurality of fibrous roots connected to the lateral side of the main root, the fibrous roots extend obliquely towards the side away from the boundary layer, and the ceramic body covers the root-like filament clusters and is formed on the boundary layer. The joint prosthesis achieves the compositing of metal and ceramic, thereby achieving both a wear-resistant ceramic body required for a joint friction surface and a porous metal structure with a good bone ingrowth effect required for an osseointegration surface. The root-like filament clusters of the root-like layer are rooted in the ceramic body, to form a tight and stable connection between the ceramic body and the metal body, and the root-like clusters being not in contact with one another prevents the ceramic body from locally breaking or cracking.

METHOD FOR LIMITING DIFFUSION OF WEAR DEBRIS OF IN VIVO IMPLANT
20220015910 · 2022-01-20 ·

Disclosed are a method for limiting diffusion of wear debris of an in vivo implant and an in vivo implant apparatus with a function of limiting wear debris. An elastomer seal is arranged at a wearing part between implant components that can move relatively and generate wear, such that an outlet for wear debris of the implant is always sealed within a sealing area formed by the seal and the implant components, thereby preventing the wear debris from diffusing outwards. The elastomer seal includes at least one flexible buffer part for reducing or completely offsetting relative motion between the implant components, thereby further reducing wear of a sealing part of the elastomer seal due to the relative motion between the parts. The seal is tightly attached to in vivo implant components, and the in vivo implant is smaller than a force for driving the components to generate relative motion.
