Interlocking reverse hip prosthesis with removable tapered central post
11090163 · 2021-08-17 ·

An interlocking reverse hip prosthesis including an acetabular cup having an opening in the central portion of the cup being implanted in the acetabular cavity. The opening has a circular extending wall protruding into the concave portion of the cup a distance at least equal to the diameter of the opening. The inward extension of the cup provides a female Morse taper suited for receiving the male Morse tapered post of the acetabular ball. After implantation of the acetabular cup, the surgeon can easily secure the cup to the acetabular bone using several screws without the interference of the central peg (as in prior implants). The femoral ball is then attached to the cup via central Morse taper.

Hip arthroplasty trial systems and associated medical devices, methods, and kits

Hip arthroplasty trial systems and associated medical devices, methods, and kits are described that can be utilized in situ to complete a femoral head trial. An example embodiment of a hip arthroplasty trial system includes a medical device and a femoral stem. The medical device has a head member, a spacer, a shaft, and a locking member. The spacer is disposed within the head member and is moveable from a first position to a second position. The shaft is disposed within the head member and contacts the femoral stem. The shaft is moveable from a first position to a second position. Movement of the shaft from the first position to the second position moves the spacer from its first position to its second position. The locking member is disposed within the head member and releasably attaches the shaft to the head member.

The invention relates to a device for producing a spacer having a casting mold, wherein the casting mold has a stem mold and a mold cavity with a spherical surface-shaped inner surface, wherein the stem mold and the mold cavity delimit a common interior, at least one filling opening and at least one vent element, wherein the stem mold is dimensionally stable on injection of bone cement paste into the casting mold, while, on injection of bone cement paste into the casting mold, the mold cavity is expandable at least in the region of the spherical surface-shaped inner surface by pressure imparted by the injected bone cement paste. The invention also relates to a method for producing spacers using such a device.

Hip implant system

Hip implant systems described herein can include a distal stem, a proximal body, and a fastener. In some embodiments, the distal stem can include a cavity configured to receive the fastener when a portion of the distal stem is positioned within the proximal body. In some embodiments, the distal stem can include a threaded exterior surface configured to mate with a fastener when a portion of the distal stem is positioned within the proximal body. In some embodiments, a distal end of the distal stem can include an anterior relief configured to conform to interior surface of a femoral canal of a patient.

Acetabular Implant for Hip Prosthesis

An acetabular implant for a hip prosthesis including: a fixation cup defining an inner cavity having a substantially hemispherical shape, made of polyethylene and having, on its outer wall, means capable of favoring its fixation with cement within the acetabular cavity of the pelvis of the patient to be prosthesized, the inner cavity being coated with an armoring made of a biocompatible material of high hardness, said armoring defining the smooth inner cavity of substantially hemispherical shape intended to receive the mobile insert; an insert, mobile within said inner cavity and having its smooth outer surface intended to cooperate by ball and socket joint with the inner cavity of the fixation cup, and defining in turn a smooth inner cavity also having a substantially hemispherical shape; said mobile insert being made of high-density polyethylene; a prosthetic femoral head or prosthetic ball, secured to a femoral stem, of spherical shape and intended to be received in the inner cavity of the mobile insert and to form a second ball and socket joint.

Orthopaedic prosthesis having support structure

A femoral orthopaedic prosthesis includes a metallic core extending from a proximal end to a distal tip. The metallic core includes a neck that is positioned at the proximal end and is configured to receive a prosthetic femoral ball. An elongated stem extends distally from the neck to the distal tip. The stem includes a proximal section extending distally from the neck, and a distal section that extends proximally from the distal tip. The elongated stem also includes a pair of spaced-apart beams that connect the proximal section to the distal section. An aperture is defined in the stem between the pair of spaced apart beams.
