Modular reverse shoulder orthopaedic implant and method of implanting the same

A modular reverse shoulder orthopaedic implant includes a humeral stem component and a separable fracture epiphysis component having a number of suture holes formed therein. The fracture epiphysis component is configured to receive a number of sutures for surgically repairing a proximal humeral fracture.

Hip or shoulder prosthesis and placement instruments

A hip/shoulder prosthesis includes: a head component; a metaphyseal component; a diaphyseal nail, and a locking device. The head component includes: a front face and rear face; with a bore, and first and second shaped recesses in the rear face. The metaphyseal component includes: a central transverse aperture at an angle to the metaphyseal component's axis; a first end configured for threaded engagement within the bore of the head component; and a longitudinal hole that begins at the second end, transects the transverse aperture and reaches the first end, to receive the locking device. The diaphyseal nail is inserted in the femoral or humeral canal, and includes: fastening apertures that receive corresponding screws for fastening the diaphyseal nail to the femur or humerus; a portion configured to be received within, and engage, the transverse aperture of the metaphyseal component, and a transverse hole configured to receive the locking device.

Method of Preparing Joint Prosthesis With Infinitely Positionable Head

A method of preparing an assembly for a surgical procedure while an implant is engaged with a bone includes mounting a first insert component, configured to mount to the implant with a first predetermined orientation, with a first mating component fixed thereto in a replication instrument at a second predetermined orientation, and determining an angular position of the provided first mating component with respect to the first insert component using the replication instrument. The first insert component and the first mating component are removed from the replication instrument and a second insert component configured to mount to the implant with the first predetermined orientation is mounted in the replication instrument at the second predetermined orientation and the determined angular position is replicated with the mounted second insert component and a second mating component.

Disclosed is a prosthetic joint assembly for joining a humerus bone to a scapula bone, comprising a humeral component adapted for engagement with said humerus bone and a concave dish; a scapular component adapted for engagement with said scapula bone and a convex surface adapted to engage said concave dish; wherein when said components are implanted and engaged in a rest position said prosthetic center of rotation is displaced in a direction that is inferior and medial relative to a natural center of rotation and said humerus bone is displaced in a direction that is inferior relative to said natural center of rotation.

SHOULDER ARTHROPLASTY SYSTEM

An implant system for total shoulder arthroplasties, hemi shoulder arthroplasties, and “reverse” total shoulder arthroplasties including a humeral stem having an enlarged head portion with interfaces adapted to removably receive various modular interchangeable components, such as articulating liners, spacers, and adapter inserts. The humeral stem functions as a universal platform that may be used in either conventional or “reverse” total shoulder arthroplasties, as well as hemi shoulder arthroplasties, and may remain implanted in place during a revision in which the implant system is converted between the foregoing configurations, for example.

A surgical procedure method includes accessing an implanted joint prosthesis having an implant engaged within a bone of the joint and a first articulating component mounted by a first mating component to a first insert component removably mounted to the implant, and partially disassembling the accessed implanted joint prosthesis by removing the first insert component with the first articulating component fixed thereto from the implant while the implant is engaged with the bone. The angular position of the first mating component with respect to the first insert component is then determined and replicated with a second insert component and a second mating component. The second insert component and the second mating component are then fixed at the replicated angle and the fixed second insert component and second mating component are mounted to the implant engaged within the bone. A new articulating component is then mounted to the second mating component.

Stemless Metaphyseal Humeral Implant

A stemless prosthetic shoulder joint may include a prosthetic humeral head and a stemless base. The stemless base may include a collar and an anchor extending from the collar intended to anchor the base into the proximal humerus. The anchor may include various features to enhance the fixation of the base, including hooks, threads, and/or expandable members that may be transitioned from a contracted insertion condition to an expanded implanted condition once the base is positioned in the bone. The anchor and/or collar may also include additional features to enhance fixation, such as geometries and surface features to enhance fixation to bone. The anchor may include a plurality of chisel slots to facilitate removal of bone during a revision surgery.

MODULAR HUMERAL HEAD AND RELATED METHODS

Provided is a method of assembling an articular component of a prosthetic shoulder joint. The method includes: engaging an end of a coupler of a joint implant with a coupling portion of another component of the joint implant; providing relative rotation between the end of the coupler and the coupling portion of the other component of the joint implant along a continuous range of rotational positions while the end is engaged with the coupling portion of the other component of the joint implant; selecting an amount of eccentricity corresponding to a position within the continuous range of rotational position; and securing the other component of the joint implant to the end of the coupler at the selected amount of eccentricity.
